New year Hi Fi resolutions

Posted by: wenger2015 on 29 December 2016

New year resolutions tend to be with reference to curbing ones excesss'...

But I have decided, to NOT Curb my upgrade spending habits in the new year.

So my new year resolution is to  purchase  two new racks and possibly upgrade my speaker cables....

So what might be your new year hifi resolutions?

Massimo,

If I can ask, what do you teach?

Haim

Haim,

sorry I missed this post. I teach Music Composition in the Conservatorio in Milano. Courses include harmony, counterpoint, fugue and orchestration. The last three years include just free composition.

Massimo,

Very cool!  You have my highest admiration.

Now some 'serious' resolution: I'd like to buy these:

the bigger model is too large and too costly, but perhaps a 3rd hand pair of these smaller ones...

Charlie,

thanks, as I said I consider myself lucky. It's what I studied and graduated in. At 11 I wanted to become Ringo Starr, but my dad looked farer into the future..

Find more time for the sweet spot. Music is being played long hours in our house but so much of it is while I am doing other things  that I am often left with the feeling of just scratching the surface. In other words, the Naim music system which is a great diving tool Is mostly used just for snorkeling.

Morning, Did the 'replacing SBLs' thread give you the idea?

Chris

Morning Chris. Not really. I had been wanting to try the ATCs for a long time now but it did not materialise. If I happen to end up with the SCM11(and the 2Qute), it will likely be the last hifi gear I will purchase. After that it will only be cables and accessories if I have the itch.

Promised myself to spend less on HiFi and more on music!

Then I found a pair of PMC 20.21's for my UnitiQute 2, which will probably lead to a NAP100....... and then I want a headphone amp for my HD800s. Oh b#gg&r!

Happy New Year all!

Massimo,

This must be fascinating, to constantly dwell in the connected worlds of music creation and sound reproduction. You should enlighten us and post more often on the Music Corner.

Happy New Year,

Best to just give in gracefully

Broken late last night (but that was in 2016 so doesn't count   after the stars aligned nicely over the holiday period to demo some kit and allow me to scratch an itch.

The main thing in 2017 is to keep exploring and buying new music (helped greatly by the Music Room) and enjoy other peoples journeys (and rooms) via the System Pictures thread

A definite curtailment of expenditure on audio hardware is mandated.... by SWMBO.  And in all honesty, an end of year review of income vs outgoings has surprised me and brought me back to earth with a bump,  so SWMBO's 'recomendation' will be (loosely) followed - "DON'T spend any more and DON'T go to that hifi shop again!"    I've explained that I just need one more 555PS, and I think we've compromised on that;  I'll discover if my assumption on this point was correct when I walk in with a 555PS in a month or two, I guess.

Of course I offered, in all sincerity, to bring her along with me whenever I visited said dealer's premises, pointing out that one is invariably greeted with a cup of coffee, however it quickly became clear that this wasn't an offer she wished to entertain.  Well one can but try, eh?

So it seems my dealer's pension contributions in 2017 will need to be funded from his other clients, not me.   As an aside, I do use Microsoft Money software to track all my expenditure, and have done for the past ten years, so am able to see what I've spent with my Naim dealer (and my Linn dealer too - LP12 etc).  The entry against 'audio' is a little frightening, as it happens, but I comfort myself from the fact that the entry against 'wine & beer' is minimal in comparison, and furthermore there are NO entries against the category of 'immoral earnings & associated expenditure'.

A happy new year, once again, to everyone who has managed to read this far

Surprised that your Missus can spot one more black box among those three stacks of yours, Roger. She must have an eagle-eye.

Thing is, those 555PS's are so bloomin' heavy I have to ask her to carry them in from the car these days

it's very kind of you. Enlighten is excessive, but I'll be happy to post ideas. So, this is my serious resolution for 2017: to post more in the Music Forum and less in the HiFi one.

Massimo, I do recall a rather good review you made with regards to the 300dr, which I must confess along with a discussion with Finkfan and an extended home dem contributed to me buying one, so keep up the excellent posts..

Happy New Year all hope it's a happy and healthy year ahead for you all . Realistically sell my CB HiCap to fund non DR SuperCap/HiCap DR, NDac for my ND5X and if funds permit a new SubChasis for my LP12.

Posted on: 01 January 2017 by cyclo

Also on my list is a SubChasis for the  LP12 but for now a Krystal is more immediate. Also service and DR the 250. 2017 will be a fine year, I can feel it!

Wenger...when you hear pure class A your hifi journey is over. Oh and so's your meagre electricity bill too.....lol...truly inefficient and expensive.

Mind, you could always use the amp to warm you through those cold winter nites....

Posted on: 01 January 2017 by Solid Air

Mainly depends on what Naim release - waiting for a 272 using the Uniti platform, but I imagine that will be a 2018 resolution rather than 2017. I do need longer speaker cables in our new lounge, and that's about it.

Otherwise, more live music! Already booked to see Madeleine Peyroux and Laura Marling, and looking for more!

Posted on: 01 January 2017 by Hook

No audio purchases planned, but I will continue subscribing to Tidal and buying a few records each month. Would also like to see a lot more live music this year.

Here's wishing everyone on the forum a happy and healthy 2017!
