Uniti and active speakers - adapter 4-Din preamp out to cinch female?

Posted by: gert on 29 December 2016

Hello,

I would like to experiment with an active speaker connected to my naim uniti. The problem now is the Din socket preamp out of the uniti. I cannot find an adapter to cinch female for it. Do such adapters exist? Or do I have to solder one myself? If the latter how does the pin layout look like from the din plug?

As it is a first experiment I do not want to buy and solder a complete, long adapter cable, just a short one to connect a normal cinch cable to it. The only adapter I have found was a din to male cinch for naim amplifiers.

Thank you

Gert

Gert, best have one made up by your dealer.  You could do one yourself if you're good at soldering such things.  The DIN4 Pre-out pin layout is detailed in the manuals.

Hi Richard,

I took a look at the uniti's manual, but unfortunately I could not find the pin layout description. Are you sure it is documented so I just have overlooked it?

Thank you
Gert

Gert, it can be found in the Amplifier manual.  It's also illustrated on the rear panel of many models in the Naim range.  Here's a picture of the back of the Hicap.  Note the pin layout of the Pre-out DIN4s on sockets 1, 2, and 3. The pre-out on your Uniti is the same.

Ah, great, thank you very much for the information. I think I now have found a ready to order adapter, though it is not very cheap, but maybe it is good. If I knew that the experiment will be lucky, I had no problem to order this. But if the active speakers will not work well with the uniti I had better soldered one myself.

I am just irritated a little bit by the description "In-Line Phono/RCA". Will it work anyway?
The ring locking is the correct one, is it? (Not the latching one?)
