How to update Unity2 (2012) to enable it for Spotify or exploit bluetoth ?

I tried  to update the firmware via the naim application (ios, the naim app is recent, version 5.1), but an update option was not offered there. Has anybody a hint ?

You need to go to its product page on the website and download the new firmware using a computer plugged into the Uniti. You will find the instructions there as well.

As HH says.  It's quite complicated to understand but easy to do. But print off the instructions and read them twice. You need to do exactly what it says. And ask here if you need help as we have all been there!

Incidentally I don't think a 2012 Uniti2 supports Bluetooth so the firmware update won't help you there. You can easily tell if it does because the Bluetooth version has a Bluetooth aerial on the back near to the wifi aerial.

Thank you David, unfortunately my unity only has one aerial. Would you though recommend to install all available firmware updates ? Is there a way to check the installed firmware level ? ( I had the unity2 in service once ?

Yes you should do the update because there are all sorts of things that are improved and Naim recommend using the latest version which is 4.4 for the Unitis and other streamers.

You can easily check the firmware version with the app by selecting that streamer, clicking on the gear wheel in the top right hand corner and then navigating down to About. It will show you the firmware version as "streamer version".  You can also do it with the remote in a similar way.

While you're at it, check if the unit has a 24/192 board fitted. Some of the features of the firmware updates require this (eg Tidal integration)  so it's a dealer upgrade that may, or may not be of interest.

For ChrisSU's suggestion, you can also look at the version information per David's advice to use the gear icon in the Naim app: older 24/96 boards have "2Dxxx" code and newer 24/192 boards (capable of Spotify Connect and Tidal functionality) have "3Dxxx" code.

It's a very resonsive community here, thank you for all the hints. I have a streamer version of 3.21.00 and the mail about streamer info shows something with 3D (see below) so I will try the updates this weekend.

ARM APP: 3.21.00
3D APP: 12915.50
3D BSL: 2110.2
3D CNE: 12915.50

Make sure you have the correct wire before you start. It's either USB to USB mini B, or USB to RS232 if you have an older Uniti. You will then probably need to load the relevant driver onto your PC - there is a link in the Naim instructions to help you find it.

It's a 2012 Uniti2 so will be USB to Mini USB, which is easier to get to work fortunately!

I was able to update successfully - thank you for the hints. Both Tidal or Spotify would be possible now and firmware is on 4.4 level. This thread can be closed now.
