Shame ( or lack thereof)

Streaming and TIdal has allowed us to discover more new music and for that we should be grateful. Yet I'm sat here, half cut, listening to a playlist I've created that copies Now That's What I Call Music 2 on a stereo that cost more than a small car. Is this a waste of the stereo? Right now I don't care, I'm loving it. I'm hearing more in the Thompson Twins than I can remember from the tapes I saved my pocket money for.
Just enjoy it while you can buddy .. we're dead for far too long ..
Nothing wrong with that tracklist.

You think you've got problems. I've just been enjoying the YouTube vinyl rip of the 1950 accordion-led classic "Jimmy Shand's Party". Very enjoyable, even if it doesn't sound as good as it used to on my parents' radiogram.

Ok now THIS is a problem! See therapy...immediately!!!
(Isn't it "funny" how music from our youth affects us???)
Of course it's a waste of a good system - in absolute terms. But presumably you don't use it only for this type of material? I don't think many people use many things at their full potential on a daily basis. Cars spring to mind.
Last night I was out to the pub with a couple of school friends I haven't seen for a while and, as usual, we started reminiscing about the "good old days" and particularly about music. Lots I had forgotten or missed so am now desperately trying to remember what we were talking about ... I think I'm up to about the 4th pint now
so beware all music shopping outlets I'll be after The Pink Fairies, Heart, Egg, Hatfield & the North, and a few others ...
There is no shame in recreating fond memories.

Did it sound sat on?
As long as prog rock does not make it on to your play list all will be fine.
Now That's... the pig years were the best.
Top of the pops albums had nice ladies .
No shame in that !!
My cousin appeared on one of theose Hallmark TOTP covers - I'll have to ask her which one. I know it wasn't the one Tobes has just posted...
Unfortunately none of the albums featuring the scantily clad beauties included the original tracks - they were all ersatz rubbish copies!!
I spent last night listening to The Very Best Of Pop Music 1980 - 1981 and loved it. I intend listening to 1982 - 83 tonight too. It's surprising how good some of it still sounds and all the better for not being played on an Aiwa blaster

You are a fellow RT fan maybe ?
Don't sit on My Jimmy Shands? Seeing RT soon, not sure if he will do that one.
Some famous people were on some of those "Top of The Pops" and others of that ilke. I seem to remember Rod Stewart as one.
When I ran a rock disco back in the '80s I bought a few of the 'Now' series and a few other compilations to add in some things that I wouldn't buy for myself (original artists only) but the tightness of the grooves on some needed to fit in the long playing time on an LP seemed to be accomodated by a reduction of bass (comparing with some things where I did have the original). And on average I only liked up to maybe 4 songs maximum out of a each double 'Now' album, and most of them not enough to go out of my way to listen to, so when I ripped my LPs I didn't bother with them.
I thought someone would pick up on it.

Nothing worng with a little bit of Jimmy Shand and especially if good old Andy Stewart is singing along with him. Think I will play a bit of The Alexander Brothers now.
Not forgetting the irreplaceable Duncan Macrae, and his "Wee Cock Sparra", each and every Hogmanay ......... part of our heritage, with apologies to our English readers, as they say.
To answer my own question. HiFi stereo and expensive electronics isn't a goal in itself. The music is important. Sometimes it's the composer, the writer, the musicians that elicit the emotional response to music. Sometimes it's nostalgia, why should that be any less relevant?
