NDX, Tidal and offline modes

Posted by: Ancipital on 09 January 2017

I had a search round the forums and didn't find anything (not that it isn't there).

I've noticed using Tidal streaming I get dropouts which isn't surprising considering what I've read.

The iOS/Android apps support an offline mode where you can download albums/songs to play in the Tidal app, they're encrypted when they're downloaded which is fair.

Now, the question is, with the dropouts, would Naim be supporting the possibility to download offline albums onto a NAS such that they can be streamed from the NAS rather than remotely served as this would negate much of the internet traffic. I assume this would depend on the agreement between Naim and Tidal.

It would be a handy thing to be able to do rather than the annoyance of buffering issues.

There is, as you know, no way of doing this at the moment (apart from connecting your iPhone to a USB input - works on SU but not sure about NDX). I raised this idea as a possible feature for the new Uniti line (which has more extensive local storage; unlikely to think offline storage on a NAS would be negotiable) in the software Beta forum. Glad to see it raised here for a bit more visibility!
