Atom now delayed until May?

Posted by: Kermit on 10 January 2017

if this is true Naim, it simply is not good enough!

Posted on: 10 January 2017 by Ian Austen

Would you care to elaborate?

Posted on: 10 January 2017 by wenger2015

Sounds like their must be issues to deal with...

Posted on: 11 January 2017 by jon h

That would be upsetting if true

Posted on: 11 January 2017 by feeling_zen

Is this a whisper of a rumor of an overheard bit of gossip about a whisper of another rumor about a half remembered dream?

Or do you actually have a reliable source on this?

I agree that it's not nice to hear these kind of messages, but hey: let's be honest, better wait a couple of months and have a proper functioning unit instead of lot's of (software) issues and updates. I also appreciate the fact that Naim seems to postpone the release to May instead of telling everybody: "A couple of more weeks needed."

I wonder what will happen to the release of the Uniti Nova?

Posted on: 11 January 2017 by jon h

My UK dealer has informed me this morning that their Naim contact has told them that core "has been delayed for another few weeks" and that "the atom and star will be march/april and the nova july"

I havent had any verification of this from Naim, but this is a well-known dealer and I have no reason to doubt the message.

A statement from Naim would be the appropriate and decent thing to do, particularly for those who have shelled out money on deposits...

Posted on: 11 January 2017 by ssmith

Stupidly I went all in and paid outright for an atom due to a good cashback deal on my credit card and just lent UQ2 on a trial after being told initialy it would be Dec/Jan latest. Should really have interpreted the Jan deadline as 2018/19 in Naim time.

My own fault but I feel Naim need to start being a little bit more realistic with time scales. It doesn't look good to announce a new product that doesn't appear anywhere near production ready.  Equally more annoying that I have now paid the CCard off making a refund complicated. Overall I think the big release was premature and a big fail on Naims part(yes and on mine for paying upfront).

And I'd bet it's cost them dear with the missed Christmas sales, I know the dealers aren't happy either.

Been into my dealer today he has said much the same.

Well I have had confirmation from a dealer that May is what Naim is telling them for the Atom.

It's all a bit of a shambles....

Posted on: 11 January 2017 by ssmith

Oh well. Cheers for the info. If it is the case I will try see if I can somehow get a full refund as don't feel comfortable having a large sum tied up in something that is being delayed in such a way. Pretty stupid on my part to just jump in head first. Kind leaves me with the feeling that I don't even believe the May date if I'm honest and think this will happen again.

Thanks

Sam

The Core is already out. I am all the way in Chicago and my dealer has a Core.

At the time you had no idea that this would happen. I'm sure your dealer will refund your money without question - they won't be out of pocket as they have not bought anything. And the credit card company won't reclaim the cash back so you've actually made money! And remember that you can easily get money off Hifi if you ask nicely at a later date. In the meantime you could always pick up a used SuperUniti. It won't have the google cast stuff, but if you can live without it you could get a nice box at a good price.

Thanks for that good food for thought. Will have a listen to the SuperUniti.

In the meantime will have to listen to a big I told you so from my partner who said I was getting caught up in the Naim hype machine and should just wait.

Thanks

Sam.

I have heard the core, it is pretty outstanding.. I would not rush to any conclusions and would wait for an announcement rather than do something based on rumor. What I certainly would not do is rush out to buy some last generation Uniti product unless it was a firesale price. Why would you want to get stuck with buying obsolete product right before it is deprecated. Wait, get a refund on your deposit if you don’t want to be out the money and at least wait until the new product ships before you buy anything to make sure you are not filled with regret by hastily buying yesterdays news.

Have there been any updates to those Cores that escaped, not the preproduction ones but the ones sold in export markets?

Posted on: 11 January 2017 by Filipe

It may not be the hardware, but the firmware. No one would be happy if hypothetically ripping or other operations were unreliable and left the library messed up!

By the time the Atom arrives the new Uniti range will have been announced At least I have a QB to pass the time. I think either way my next step will be a little more cautious. I do think Naim need to say what is happening at this stage in a honest way as there has not been any official news yet. Equally if they can't have it ready in time for May they need to be upfront now.

I have been told there have been some software updates. The initial version of it sounded great but had a few bugs.

It seems that Naim customers have some say in the matter of the company's strategies and activities. I wish that our governments were more like Naim and that the billions were a little more like Naim forum's members...

More like they think they do, Max :-)

I have to say I'm disappointed to hear about a possible delay of that many months, when I first ordered an Atom I'd been looking forward to getting it in January. As others have said the sooner Naim issue a statement letting customers know what the new dates are the better.

I cannot believe that it's been delayed 6 months (from the original early December date) due to firmware - more likely due to not having the (outsourced) parts to build them ie PCB's. However this is all speculation unless Naim demean themselves to talk to their customers...

Maybe they need time schedule for more semi finished parts made in far east ?
