Tidal MQA release

Posted by: Bigfoot on 12 January 2017

Hi,

1. does anyone know if software updates to Naim Streamers (such as ND5 XS) would make it possible to stream MQA ? I understand Tidal themselves currently only support MQA through their own desktop app.

Thanks,

Andrew.

Am listening to Tidal app on Mac OSX with Meridian DAC thingy into HD650 headphones. Its not bad. Wouldnt say it was knocking my socks off.

Looking at the list of albums in Masters MQA format, its not a particularly enticing group. Much is old and frankly quite badly recorded originally anyway, or are hifi-hacked-to-death-standards like Fleetwood Mac Rumours, or Tigerlilly, or....

most enjoyable so far is Aha hunting high and low

But its still a bit meh.

How much of that is MQA, how much is Tidal, and how much is the meridian explorer2 is hard to say. Its certainly not the HD650s which are excellent, and can really bop.

I shall take the meridian home and try it on the big naim system. I think I have the aha in high-def from hdtracks

Since many of the MQA releases date back to the days of analogue tape masters, how did they get "artist approval" from musicians who died a long time ago?
