NAC 252 cable dressing

Posted by: Acred on 13 January 2017

I'm getting a s/h NAC 252 from a dealer next week to go with my NAP 300, CDX2, Neat Ultimatums and SL interconnect and speaker cables. It's replacing a 282.

 I've noticed that the manual says;

Note: For best performance the Burndy and 5 pin DIN cables should be run as close together as possible.

To those of you with the 252 or the 552 as the cabling advice applies to both, how have you got the cables to run close? I'm guessing they might not do this without a light twist or some other means of getting them to run close.

Thanks

Run them parallel, or if that proves too tricky then one overlap should do the trick.

Thanks Richard.

Richard's right. Problem is Naim  don't specify. Apart  about 25m.m,  max..

Try to one loop over though.

Not having the Burndy paralle to or touching another one or the deck seems more important, just let everything hang loose, if it was that important they'd make the length of the one or the other so that it happened naturally.

I understand close together as stick them together with a little bit of tape. To keep them close. Is this the way to do it, Or do i have to remove the tape.

Don't stick them together, just do as Richard suggests.

I keep them close - if i am honest in my setup I didn't hear a difference when I did this but its what i do - I think it will depend on the electromagnetic fields from your mains wiring and equipment near your 252 on the benefit of keeping them closer... the higher the density the more benefit - but its best just play it safe

I keep the burndy and snaic slose - I think they wind around each other once.

I use a neoprene cable management sleeve (made by YOSH, amazon.uk 11 GBP for 80 inch). Can be used over the whole length or in small stripes, easy to cut.

When I tried a 252 recently I had no problems getting the two to hang near themselves. no need for any imagination.

As Richard says one overlap here on my 552 as is the case with many of my friend's systems... try both and see if you can hear a difference!

Could you use 2 cable ties together - one looped loosely around both cables and one tightish between the cables and around the other cable tie to create a sort of figure of eight

Yes in my experiments, it was actually detrimental to tie them together or wind around each other. Just install the burndy first, since it's such a beast of a cable, then install the snaic. They should automatically arrange themselves fairly close to each other, just try to keep them as close as possible without having anything get in-between or around if possible. Naturally they will touch each other in at least one place which is fine.

I've tried it both ways. Currently I have the snaic wrapped around the Burndy. I didn't discern a significant difference either way.

Mine have two overlaps that help them to stay very close but unfortunately getting in contact three or four times. This arrangement has a positive impact on SQ.
