Marlow Rowing Club

Deepest commiserations to MRC, one of the world's oldest rowing clubs, following the devastating fire early today that destroyed their main building, 30 boats (which can be replaced but not quickly because they're not "off the shelf / from stock" items), other equipment, and personal effects; but in a way most heart-breakingly, a century's worth of historic artifacts, documents and photos which cannot be replaced.

Thanks for the thought JWM,  I was not going to post on here as I did not think it would be a subject that naim folks would be intererested in.

As a Marlowite & an ex MRC member I feel it somehow like I lost a relative.

Its funny as I left the Marlow area yonks ago & rowing to me was never that important as was the club.  But I always went "home" for the regatta if I was around the UK,  shame it got moved that pond at Dorney.  But the club & that old building with its history was something special.  And having just spoken to my brothers who still live there,  it does seems like a lot of it has all gone.

I have to go for lunch at the Anglers next weekend so will call in & offer condolances.

Sad news indeed James. A valuable aspect of english heritage gone forever.
