Any way to listen (over UPnP?) to files that are on a USB drive plugged into my HDX?

My HDX is located in my sitting room; a large USB drive is directly attached to the HDX, storing a set of 96/24 FLAC files.

My office laptop (linked by wi-fi to the home router) can access (via UPnP on Win XP) and play files stored natively on the HDX, as well as other ripped files stored on a NAS (in a different room) that is also on my home network and talks to the HDX via Ethernet over the mains.

Question: is there any way also for me from the same wi-fi connected laptop (so I suppose using UPnP) to access and play the hi-res FLAC files on the HDX-connected USB drive?

The wifi router is an Apple Airport Extreme, and the laptop seems to be connected to it at 144 Mbps.

I know that one option would be to relocate the USB drive and plug it directly into the Apple wifi router, but if at all possible I'd rather keep it next to the HDX and plugged directly into it.

Firstly–yes, the USB drive attached to the HDX may be seen over the network under "Browse by Device" from any UPnP control point / player.

On the PC side, Foobar + the UPnP playback component would be sufficient for UPnP playback.
