New Kudos Titan 707

Posted by: Jonas Olofsson on 17 January 2017

The rumours been many but now it's official: Kudos new speaker, Titan 707 will be introduced at the Bristol Hi-Fi Show.

A smaller one box speaker but with the Titan sound is what to be expected.

A new reference in its class?

Maybe they used the sink cutout....

According to the Bauer website, the TT has a sandwich frame.

So perhaps they've raided a completely different part of the kitchen...

I`m about to audition some Super 20 for the second time this week. First time I had them on loan, was in another listening room a room which I gave up, acoustically. My former Titan`s also lived in that room and based on the acoustics, I`m pretty sure my experience with Kudos should be reevaluated.

From what I have heard about the new isobarik models from Kudos, I`m tempted to wait and audition them also, before purchase.

My comments about the Supernait 2 are exclusive to the unit in my possession.  Your mileage may vary.

Been around the Forum for over 2 years now, and I just about heard it all. When I joined, I realized, that at my age, I couldn't  play the upgrade game.  I'll never forget the first Post that really got my attention, and made my mind up, as to where I would enter the world of Naim!

"I've had 282 with HC and SC, 252 and 552. Clearly, 552 is the best - there is just a certain "rightness" to it that it is instantly recognizable. If I had to do it all over, I would have gone straight to a 282 with supercap and stayed with it until a secondhand 552 became available. A 282 with supercap won't resolve absolutely everything from the recording, but it will be close enough that you never care, IMO."

Nait 2, Super Nait, 202 HI Cap, etc.... Its all good!

But Statement, Vivid G3's, NDS, Full Loom,

or

D’Agostino Momentum Series mono power pushing Wilson Audio Alexx
£105,000 Speakers

That's another story!

Seminars!!!!

I hate them!

Enjoy your Music, The Why!

Hi Allante

You may have missed this post from Richard Dane, many many years ago, back in 2010. Out of all the posts on the forum, for me this is the one I liked the most, the second one being the one you quote, as well as another one from Mr Dane saying 282/250 was the sweet spot in the Naim range (this was way before the days of 272 or SN2) and... in his esteemed words.....

"... this evening I decided to try a little experiment. I thought I would try some pieces of music played back from my iPod 80GB through the NAC552 + NAP250 against the same pieces from CD (Meridian 200/DAC/XPS) played back through a cheap(er) amp. So, out of the cupboard I dragged my Ion Obelisk 3x/x-pak, mainly because it was the first piece at hand, but also because I thought it would be interesting to see how it would get on with the SL2s. For those who don't know what the Ion is (are?), it's a little integrated amp in shoe-box style but in this version the power supply has been removed and replaced with a much larger one in a separate shoe-box case. It's a great little amp, with excellent timing and a smooth expansive sound. It's a little soft by Naim standards and against the big Naim combo it lacks a sense of space and adds a layer of fuzz to everything, but it's never anything less than a great listen. It is of course getting on for 20 years old and is much, much cheaper to buy.

So, to the test at hand; Could the brilliance of the NAC552 + NAP250 allow the iPod (playing ALAC files) to match or even exceed CD played back via a superb source into an amplifier costing 1/50th of the price?

Err.... no.

Now, don't get me wrong, the iPod was actually not too bad. Quite listenable in fact. It had a bit of a boost in the upper bass that seemed to make everything sound quite meaty. It was very far from the sort of excrable cacophony that many would have you believe, however it was obvious that the system had taken quite a big step backwards from what I was used to hearing.

Changing over to the Naim front end into the cheapie amp brought instant relief. At last the music became exciting and involving again. No, it wasn't as good as the source into the Naim amps, but the quality of the source still shone through. If ever a test could show the importance of the source this was it.

Anyway, no great shocks I guess, but an interesting and diverting little experiment. Source-first still applies."

So they're 13,700 gbp.

How does that change (or not change) your thoughts about these speakers?

Posted on: 25 February 2017 by elkman70

Too expensive. Wrong side of £10k...

They did sound very special though!

Can't argue with that very special indeed.

This was my favourite speaker at the whole show.  From a vinyl source too.  Outside my budget at present, though.................Shame.

You'll have to hope for the T-606s then

I'll still give them a listen and you never know...they may be worth it.

I really wanted to like the 808 and was a bit (positively) biased once I got to THAT shop. I found the 808 fast but shouty. Bass was not the real deal for me. I thought they needed a second bass driver.

Dave

It already has 2 bass drivers.

Err, it has one. A mid and a tweeterrr.

No bodger, it has two bass units in isobaric configuration. I.e. One bass driver you can see and another in a chamber behind that one loading it specifically for bass response. So IT HAS TWO.

Frank.

Frank,

I know - you are right. I sent a "like" to Sunbeam to apologise. I forgot about the second driver tucked away. So to be completely accurate, it needs a third bass driver

LOL, in fact it has a third one but the speaker is configured as a 2.5 way so not sure how much it counts nor where in the bass spectrum it comes in.

It could simply be that the type of bass presentation, which is very clean, is just not for you. Many people struggle when the bass presentation is totally clean - they expect a little euphonic warmth which acts as a comfort. Unfortunately, it often acts as a soak which doesn't allow the speaker to drive as quickly. Not sure, maybe something else was at play, so many variables...

Thanks for the ray of light!

Frank.

My room shakes when heavy bass is played through my Titans. Bass shy they are not!

I own a pair of Kudos T88's.  The bass performance is excellent, but like any high-end speaker, it's what's upstream that matters.  As to the "shouty" comment, my experience has been that is caused by poor soldering joints and incorrect speaker pins.  Derrick (the designer) was very helpful when I took delivery of my pair and sorting out problems.  He's a very bright designer and uses Naim electronics to voice his speakers.

Naim amps, but not necessarily sources, at least judging from the equipment they take to shows.

which sources do they use?

Derek used NDS-252-300 at home with a pair of Titans when I visited him. Sounded marvellous.

Most any full range speaker played at moderate volume is capable of exciting bass modes in a room. Shaking the room may be more an indicator of the need for low frequency acoustic treatment.

I did ask whether there would be a T606 and the answer was it's coming soon

Fair point. Still, bass shy they aren't. But of course Melco-NDS-500-Music-Sonority helps...

I guess it's all in the eye of the beholder - regardless of sound, I wouldn't give these house room!!

Good job we're all different, eh?

I think they look super, and would happily accommodate them if I had the wherewithal. It's great to see a new expensive speaker that doesn't look like a dalek or a waste bin.
