What's the oldest piece of hi-fi you own?
Posted by: liam on 21 January 2017
by this I mean the oldest piece of hi-fi you currently own from second hand or new.
mine is a pair of Roksan Ojan speakers owned from new, 22 years old this year! And used everyday.
Mine's a pair of Mission 770 speakers, bought in 1982. No longer used, awaiting a new home.
Thorens TD125 turntable bought by my Dad new in about 1970. It's in the loft.......
Transcriptors Hydraulic Reference Turntable with 9" fluid arm, bought in the early to mid 70s. Not been used for ages, & stored in a box room.
Assorted cartridges bought for it - Shure V15/111, the fantastic (for its day at least) Sonus Blue Label, and the terribly disappointing (to my ears) A&R P77 when I could no longer get styli for the Sonus .
Celestion Ditton 66 speakers, bought at the same time as the Transcriptors.. Technically not at my place any more, but still being used by my brother.
nap 160BD ...1979. Still one of the best -IMO!!
My ears.
These beautiful mid 70s objects of desire..

Again technically not at my place any more, but still being used by my daughter.
!973 : Still have the turntable. Amp. gave up the ghost 11 years ago; gave the tuner to my sister.
Philips GA212 electronic TT, RH521amp,RH621 tuner

1974 Philips N4510 R to R deck: Still have it.

Not quite sure which is the oldest but I still have in my loft an Ariston RD80 turntable with LVX arm and a pair of Heybrook HB2 speakers.
Cambridge P50 bought as my 21st birthday present; so 42 years old. Just recently brought back to life after laying dormant for 20 odd years and forming the basis of a retro system in the guest room.
Graham's modified AR18s speakers bought when I was a student, about 1984. I had to replace the foam around the bass drivers a few years ago, but they sound pretty good on the end of my Nait3 bought in 1994, in the study.
David
In my main system one of these, NAT01 + NAPST
Those shown are not mine, but a photo from an Internet search. Mine were purchased new from Grahams in the mid 90s. I had them serviced for the first time in 2015.
I also have a Naim Nait Mk1 which I bought in the mid 80s and still use in a bedroom.
A Nait 2, owned from new and used most days in my bedroom.
Ditto - Nait-2 with the factory fitted pre-amp out option. Plays NDX TV & FM feed from Supernait buffered "tape out" in my dining room.
NACA4 speaker wire.

Nac 12/ Nap 120 - Still in use on a second system. C. 1976.

A Blaupunkt virginia tube radio from 1956
Revox B77 mk 1 from 1980. Totally refurbished with new capstan and heads. Still sounds wonderful recording live radio 3 feeds on my mid 1990s NAT01![]()
I got the B77 around 4 years back. It was away for 6 months being totally stripped down and restored by one of the few people in the country able to do the job properly - even a new Nextel paint finish to complete the job. Thear who did the work originally serviced it for an 80 year old chap from Cambridge many moons ago. I bought it with all the service receipts and original manual. Nice piece of audio history.

I had one of these as well (roughly the same age) to go along with my Transcriptors turntable and Celestion Ditton 66 speakers. A beautiful looking bit of kit in its day, and bought by me because I just couldn't afford the Lecson AC1/AP1 I really wanted. I threw it out 4 or 5 years ago, but now wish I had had it repaired.

Revox B77 as per original post

Mission Argonaut 780 Mk II. Incredible speakers in my opinion considering they cost me £140 on an auction website. Older than me too!
Two of these.

Serial numbers far apart so I'm guessing the oldest was bought for monophonic application in the late 50's/early 60's. I've owned the pair since 2003 when I had them fully serviced.
Playing, and making some lovely noises off a Nait XS MkII as I type this post.
John.
Funny !? - Revox A77 - had since new in 1978
Last night, burning smell, now not working, I suspect burned out capacitors.
first problem with it in nearly 40 years !!!
