Hi All,
Hope someone will be able to help with my NAC / NAP setup i'm probably doing something obviously wrong.
For ages i've been using an NAC 42.5 with a NAHA and no NAP and it seemed to work without it being powered.
I've recently bought a second hand NAP 90 and am having trouble getting it working
At the moment I have the NAP plugged into the 4 pin on the NAC.
When the NAP is turned on the green light comes on the unit and you hear a slight hum out of my speakers.
However no light on the NAC 42.5 comes on and the volume knob does not seem to affect the hum coming through the speakers so i'd say that the NAP isn't communicating with the NAC or powering it. I've tried two seperate 4 pin cables so know it's not that.
From googling I originally thought it was because I did not have the 5 pin link plug installed however i've just inserted one and that did not seem to make a difference however the plug does look like it's sticking out a bit and didn't want to force it.
Pics are attached of the wiring setup incase i've missed something obvious any advice on anything else I can try or anything obvious i've missed would be great.

OK, thanks to Adam for somehow managing to get the images to show up and forwarding to me, I can see a few things that look wrong. First of all, that last DIN socket on the NAC42.5 should be a DIN5 (and should have the link plug fitted) but it appears you have that connected between your NAP90 and NAC42.5 - how have you done this? Is it really just a NAC42 rather than a NAC42.5? The third DIN socket should be the DIN4 that you connect to the NAP90, but really weirdly you seem to have managed to fit a 5 pin link plug here - this may well be why it doesn't push in very far...
I advise to disconnect everything and start again.

Hi Richard,
Many thanks for your quick reply.
Just unplugged everything and had a look and i've got a 5 pin output and a 4 pin next to it so wonder if for some reason there back to front on my unit (Maybe it was modified before I bought it)
Would it sound right to run a 4 pin ( out of the NAP) to a 5 pin (into NAC) cable instead? and leave the 4 pin on the end open or would I need a 4 pink blanking plug in the end?
Not sure if you can see it but i've uploaded a picture with everything unplugged to the following link so you can see.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi Alba,
Thanks for the quick reply,
That was my first thought originally i was using a SNAIC 4pin to 4 pin and had no luck with that :-(
Tried 2 separate cables in it that I know were working in my last system.

I'm no expert, but given that your preamp seems to have a non-original DIN socket that doesn't match the others, it's anyone's guess what mod's it may also have under the hood. Does it have any sort of service history? If it was mine, I would be taking it, and the power amp, straight to Class A to see if it needed a recap and/or service.

The din socket to the far right, looking from the rear, may not be connected in circuit, I have seen this a few times. It looks original from the time but the diagram under the sockets does not show it. Was this perhaps a 42 built just before it became the 42.5 ?
