Powerline
Posted by: AirKing on 25 January 2017
Hi everyone, I have just joined.
Need some advice please, I have a Naim nac-272 with 250dr running Kef Reference 1's, which unit is best to use a power line with, amp or streamer.
i have been told the sq is quite a bit better using a poweline, but not sure which unit to put it on.
Sorry if it's been covered before.
Thanks
Hi,
Experiment. I started with the source and then progressively added them through the system.
A suggestion for you though. I got my best upgrade possibly ever by having my electrician install a dedicated radial spur with the powerlines each having their own (unswitched) Mk socket.
Good luck.

It's usually better to test it in your system. In your case I would give it a week to burn in and then I would plug it to 272 for a few days and then the 250 for a few days and see which one is better. Don't follow our advice blindly as systems are different. My experience shows that a powerline in the Hicap DR is more rewarding than the SN2. What does this mean? Maybe source benefits more, so in your case a 272 may benefit more, but I am not 100% sure.
Goodluck with a nice problem to have ![]()
Quite. Just try it out. But do get the mains spur done first.
Many thanks guys for the advice.
i will deaf get the spur done.
cheers
If you do the spur - and assuming you are in the U.K. - get the electrician to split the tails, install a separate consumer unit with 50 amp breakers, and run 10mm2 cable to unswitched sockets. Make sure they take the earth from the new CU back to the meter, rather than piggy backing off the original CU. They will look at you as though you are mad - just smile and say that this is what you want.

Hi,
I am not in UK , there is EU 220V circuity in my country, but anyway, I cannot catch the point of the advice.
Would you try to explain it a little more understandable, please ?
As this is what to do in the U.K., and your regulations will be different, I suggest you speak to an electrician and explain that you want a separate supply for your stereo. If you put your location in your profile it will be easier for people to advise.

My location is Czech Republic, my trouble is that I cannot understand the description of the "operation" wholly as well as the purpose and effect ))
First, make sure any suggestions here comply with your local regulations. You need a qualified electrion.
We are talking about taking a heavy duty cable from the fuze board to the hi fi just for the hi fi. Everyone will say you are mad but it is a big improvement!
Thanks for all the advice, I will get my local electrician on it and report back my findings.
