Connection to and from what?

Sounds like Fibre broadband.

Yes fiber broadband is pretty widely available in metropolitan areas in the States.  I've had fibre broadband for a little over 10 years now.  Verizon FiOS is the vendor here I use.  It's extremely reliable.

Fiber is a major step up from other DSL's. We often stream all together in my house and not a single delay is noticed.

Internet Gig ethernet speed in/out the lab here. It is tremendously good fun

Ah, but is that what's meant? Why can't people make the effort to ask questions clearly?

Oh, I will describe the point

there is external internet optical cable terminated by HUB in the basement. Metallic connection lines (very old cat5 distributions, cable traces hidden/unknown) to particular flats are installed. I have possibility to place order on new optical connection line from "new optical HUB in the basement" to my flat. But I have no idea if it is useful for SU streaming ........

That will depend on the device that receives the connection in your flat. Is your ISP going to provide that? The Superuniti will need a regular Cat5e type connection, not an optical one. If you have to provide your own switch, I wonder if you could use one with an optical SFP option (as on the recently popular Cisco 'posh' switches) and run your SU from there?

HI Chrissu,

I am very far from from IT issues understanding. I just know that my  internet provider will place CAT wall socket in my flat.

So is the optical line you refer to only the line coming into the building? If so, you just need to connect a switch to the wall socket, and connect the SU to one of the ports on the switch.

Ok this makes sense.

In typical fiber installations to homes in the States, fiber runs into the basement, and there is a "box" there that provides an ethernet connection for internet, and coaxial cable connection for TV.  Beyond the basement, it's all cat5 (or greater) and coax.  So fiber TO the basement and cat5 FROM the basement to the rest of the house is common.  Fiber within the walls of the home is not provided by the internet service provider, and is quite rare -- enthusiasts maybe install it on their own.  Most new homes build in the past 10 years have cat5 cable running in the walls.

What you seem to have available is between these two.  You have fibre coming into the basement of the building, and then are offered fibre from there to your particular flat.  You'll also need a "box" in your flat to provide ethernet connections inside of your flat.  What the advantage of this, vs ethernet from the basement to your flat, I don't know.  Ethernet can carry all the speed you would need.  If the cat5 connection from the basement to your particular flat is poor quality, it should be easy to just run a new run of ethernet cable.  IMHO you don't NEED fiber to your flat.

Well, there is internet optical connection line into the building terminated by HUB. And there is metallic connection line from HUB into my flat. I can place order to my internet provider for substitution of metallic flat connection line  by optical flat connection line. All installation works including CAT wall socket will be executed by my internet provider. My question mark is:   Is it reasonable for streaming quality improvement, or is it just waste of money ?

That depends if your current internet connection provides all you need for streaming. If it does, then it is a waste of money.

It will not effect whatsoever the quality of music streamed from a server inside your flat (nas, UnitiServe, Uniti Core, etc).

How is your internet speed working out now?  Can you use Spotify, Netflix, etc. ok?  Have you run a speed test?

If you are not having problems now, that upgrade would be a waste of money.

Hi everybody,

I detected couple of articles on FTTH and GPON. Then the decision on new internet connection was done easy .))

I will share my impressions after new connection installation.

I predict tighter bass and more "inky" blackness between notes.

I will share my impressions. What is "inky" blackness ? I am not native English so I don't understand wholly some wording time by time  )

I was being facetious (you'll need to translate that word, sorry).  It was an attempt at humor, somewhat subtle, that did not translate to your language.
