QNAP - N272 keeps losing connection with Qnap NAS TS231

Posted by: Harty601 on 29 January 2017

I've been running asset on a Qnap TS 231 since buying my 272 a year or so ago. For the better part of a year it has been bullet proof. Annoyingly (for no reason I can fathom), in the last couple of months my music library (and server) has started disappearing from the Naim (IOS) app. I have to restart the NAS to get the Naim app to see the server again and be able to stream music from it.

The issue did not coincide with a software update to either Asset or the Naim app - I'm running Asset 5.1 on the Qnap and 5.3 on the Naim App. I'm running the Qnap through a net gear switch to the 272 - again, there have been no hardware changes in the last 12 months.

I wondered if anyone else has had a similar issue??

Thanks,

Harty

Hi

Have you checked all your Ethernet connections. Also enter the qnap software and switch off  assett then switch it on again. I seem to remember I had a similar problem when I started streaming about 3 years ago.

If you go to the Qnap on your iPad, and then into Asset, you can put a link on the iPad - like the one in the picture. Then if you want to restart Asset or rescan, it's really easy.

It's worth turning everything off, then starting the router, then the switch, then the Qnap, then the 272. Leave a few minutes between each. I use a reserved IP address for the Qnap - mainly to keep it on the iPad if I want to turn it off or get into Asset.

Any additions to your network like Amazon Echo, Netflix streaming etc?

HH:  Curiosity got the better of me I'm afraid so please excuse my question .. Is there any reason you have yet to upgrade the Asset to 5.1 ?

I wasn't aware that there was a new version..... I just looked on the Illustrate website and the changes in 5.1 don't appear to make any difference to the features I use. Last time I upgraded I needed to redo to browse tree, which was a bit of a nuisance. Is there any benefit of 5.1? Do you know if it resets the browse tree to the default? If so, I'll stick with what I've got for a while longer.

I did mine the weekend before last.  Can't say I have noticed much difference but it seems a good idea to be on the latest version.  It would be nice if Illustrate sent out notifications when new versions are available.

No ill effects apart from it restored the icons to their defaults as I had previously installed the icons provided by Yetizone.

HH:  I've not noticed much change either, but like Richard I wait a short period of time and then upgrade regardless of whether there's a benefit to my daily mode of operation.

Richard:  Actually they do notify you of upgrades to new versions.  You have to subscribe to the individual thread for "Asset R5 for QNAP, OS X, Linux & Pi" in the "News & Updates" Forum .. same goes for updates to "dBpoweramp for Apple OS X" in my case .. there's another for Windows.

Asset update thread and info. You can subscribe here (will delete if this contravenes forum rules) on the Asset forum: https://forum.dbpoweramp.com/s...NAP-OSX-Linux-amp-Pi

TrickyDickie, the alternative B&W Asset icons I put together are still available for use with versions 5 and 5.1  https://www.dropbox.com/sh/g7t...ERtxetrSrtl1nga?dl=0

Many thanks, I've now subscribed to this and the DBPoweramp thread.  I upgraded to the latest version of DBPoweramp as well.

I have the latest icons, thanks for your efforts!
