Is it time for a 282
Posted by: Scooot on 01 February 2017
Hi,
I am at a stage where I can afford a upgrade after quite sometime saving and the dreaded upgrade bug has also kicked in.
my current system is -
ndx-xps2 dr-202-hicap dr-napsc-200 on a fraimlilte.
I have not done the home demo yet but was looking towards changing the 202 for a 282.As this would be a huge investment for me I thought I would seek others opinions with greater knowledge on this set up.
So basically is the 282 the most logical step up for my set up.?
Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Finkfan posted:But wouldn't it be better for, let's say a superlumina cable, to go straight from 282 to 250 instead of via a 'standard' snaic?
Anyway it doesn't matter. We're going off topic
No, worse. The earthing in a Naim system is key to getting the best from it. See my earlier post.
Thank you Richard
I auditioned a 282 recently and it is a superb pre. I'm now saving!!!!
One thing worth trying is adding glass shelves to your fraim lite. I have just added two shelves to my home made rack one under cdp and one under ndac. I am amazed by the difference. Everything is better. Great upgrade for £50!!!

I also found that soundstage improves massively when going from HCDR to Supercap DR on a 282 - for me it was the most striking and immediately obvious impact of that change.

If you do this and a new model does arrive you could sell it, and not lose any money.

Sound advice.

Just check the history with Naim, to confirm that SELLER's story matches Naim's story!
SN, SN, SN...
Short story, I bought a NAP 250.2 from a dealership in Canada, Demo unit, Full warranty!
Great!
I asked serveral times, about the SN, never got it!
Being overly exciting, and impatient, I pulled the trigger. Mind you this was Summer/2015 !
What the heck, Dealership, Full warranty, can't loose!, unit couldn't be more than a couple of years old.
Received the amp, doubled boxed, etc..
Opened up the protective box, wow original packaging of an ten year old unit.
Ready for recapping, even though it was Full warranty, resale value, automatically evaporated.
I managed to get out of the deal, thanks to Some very Nice gentleman at Naim!
Point being, a little homework, never hurts!
Allante93!
Replaced two weeks later, with a open box Brand new Full warranty, Naim Dealership, BTW both Dealerships were were authorized Naim.
4K USA 2015 unit, resale value in our market for my unit, probably 3- 3.3 K due to the DR Amps are starting to hit the market.
Seen one the other day 4.2K 250DR!
Out!

Whether to buy new or used, that is personal. I bought my NAC 282, NAP 250 DR and Hicap DR new last year as I wanted the gear to last the lifetime in my system, apart from having the advantages of not requiring to service the gear for the next 15 years and yes, it's all spanking brand new without any marks. On the other hand used is great value but it loses some of the points as mentioned above.
I bought my NAC 202 and NAP 200 used as that's my first entry to Naim and I wanted to test the waters. It worked out pretty well and the step up to the NAC 282 is as what everyone was saying - a game changer. Once everything is optimised including the source(and cables) which are all equally important, it's very nice. I have been deriving a lot of enjoyment from the system now. The NAC 282 is highly recommended.
As many have said, 202 to 282 is a great step up & is exactly what I did. I was originally using the 200 as well, which was a great sounding setup. Compared to the 202 the 282 steps up in basically every area. I listened to mine bare for a week then put on the HiCAP DR to hear what it could really do, which really brought it to another level. Have since swapped the 200 for a 250DR, which was another very worth while upgrade for me & like many others have reached the point where I no longer lust after box upgrades & will likely keep this setup for some time (though I may swap the HC DR for a SC DR), that is unless someone wants to drop a 500 series system in my lap ![]()
