Tiger Paw Tranquillity

I've not heard it yet, but I'm hoping to do so fairly soon. I suspect that to get it to work at its optimum the suspension on the LP12 will need some attention.

Like Chris, I too hope to hear the effect of this piece of kit some time soon. If you are planning to fit it yourself, have a read of the cautions about oil contamination on the Scottish forum.

I heard this last week at my dealer and thought for the money it was an absolute no-brainer upgrade to pursue once he gets them in. I don't think you'll be disappointed at all.  Enjoy!  

I'll be getting one as soon as I can. I have a Khan top plate so it makes even more sense. Lots of coverage on a certain Scottish forum including positive commentary from a well known Leicestershire dealership. There's some talk of fine tuning the suspension post fitting but a comprehensive reply to my email from Tigerpaw earlier in the week suggested that any adjustment (if required at all) would be tiny. 

Installed on Friday.  Very simple to do this - 5 mins max. Additional weight has no noticeable impact on suspension.

For me, the nature of the improvement is very similar to that experienced with sub-chassis upgrade to Keel.  More information is coming out of the groove and enhancing almost all aspects of the musical performance.

Exceptionally cost effective upgrade!!

I have seen one but not listened yet, looks very well made and I really like the thinking behind it. Comments on the other places are very favourable and I will certainly be having a listen when the man from Leicester returns from his travels.

I just installed mine--I think I have one of the first 4 or 5 to make it to the States. The instructions would benefit greatly from a couple of photos. I got it right the first time, but I had to go to the Tiger Paw website to make sure I had done it correctly. Initial impression is that it removes a cloud of haze from the music--better in highs, lows and midrange. The A-B test is very easy to do--just remove the top magnet from inside the inner platter. It has a reasonably tight friction fit to the spindle housing; you really don't have to curl your fingers under to hold it in place while reinstalling the inner platter, despite what the instructions say. Is it one of those improvements you can hear from the next room over--too soon to say.

But would you say that the effects are as great as a keel and therefore supplant it without needing a keel or that they are as great in addition to the keel?

Installed mine this weekend and changed springs at the same time using my trusty Kradle. Superb is all I can say and for me right up there with the Keel and Tigerpaw top plate. Focus and depth are stunning - so much so that the NDS has been kicking its heels for the past day or so. Better ease back or I'll be needing a new Kandid at this rate. The only downside is that you can't see this wonderful piece of engineering once the deck is back together!

I bought a Tranquility last week

I  compared the Tranquility effect on two LP12s and in both cases it was not plug and play - and careful but minor adjustment was necessary.

The first LP12 used Lingo 3 Kore Khan Naim Prefix Roksan Nima sKale and DV20L and after adjustment to ensure entirely free running the improvement was immediate and very apparent.

The most striking aspects were lower "noise", clarity of detail and a wider, more precise performance. More musical and enjoyable. This was reinforced by removing the Tranquility which very obviously reversed the effect.

Moving on to my deck with a slightly higher specification there was effectively the same type of improvement but my LP12's suspension was sagging a little and therefore needed some adjustment to get the full benefit of the Tranquility.

I am very happy indeed with my purchase but I am very glad that Peter Swain fitted it for me 

At £400 and probably a bit of fettling time it seems a no brainer.

Very neat - such a simple, but well executed solution (not surprising seeing the quality of the designers other work)

David from Accent on Music came over today and installed the Tranquility in my LP12/Keel/Radical/Cirkus/Linto/Aro-Activa TT.  What a fabulous upgrade!  A new level of clarity and PRAT emerged.  Instead of listening to a Baritone singing Don Fernando in Beethoven's Fidelio , the color of the voice was now so clear it was easy to identify the singer as Fischer-Dieskau.  String quartet players now played better together, the flow of music they were producing became much more involving.  Instruments sounded larger.  Listen to Guiomar Novaes playing Debussy Preludes on Vox, the piano jumped out of the speakers--more dynamic, more color.  Her individual interpretation of the music much more apparent.  A clear winner at a fraction of the cost of a new black box.  Rest of system is Activ IBLs with 250s, SCs on  SNAXOand 52.

TPQ went onto my deck today. Holy cr&*!!! What an upgrade! If you have an LP12 you owe it to yourself to try this out. In my system/room etc it's nothing short of stunning. More of everything, detail, dymanic range, imaging, you name it. And all that without losing track of the music. It all makes even more sense, you really feel you understand what the musician was trying to achieve. I've got goosebumps here, feels like Sade is in the room with me. Fabulous.

The write ups i have reaf suggest easy installation. Does installation require the specialist skills of your dealer or can anyone do it ?

I'm on my second LP12 in 20 years, service it myself and have fitted various upgrades including the Radikal motor and most recently the Tranquity. I would'nt attempt this without the right equipment including a Kradle. Some say that no suspension adjustment is necessary but I did mine as part of a spring swap so did this as part of a general service. One thing to note, the Cirkus bearing outer sleeve finish isn't consistent which can result in a very tight fit. Roger is able to accommodate this through the supply of an alternative sleeve of required. If you don't want the hassle and the deck needs a service I'd be tempted to let your dealer do it for you.

Yes, I discovered this issue and it is with early Cirkus bearings and reported it to Roger who has indeed accommodated this in the latest production. IMHO have a dealer fit it as a self fit will be hit or miss (50/50) as to whether it will work correctly without affecting the suspension (causing it to knock for example) or have the two opposing magnetic surfaces touching without adjustment. The Tranquility weighs 175g BTW, so while you may wish to have a go DIY, be prepared for some adjustments or as I say, take it to an authorised dealer if you can.

Interestingly my current deck is 3 years old so a recent bearing in a Keel with a Khan top plate. Terrific upgrade though. The only issue being my Kandid which will need replacing sooner due to increased use

Thanks for advice. I'll leave it till i'm ready to replace the cartridge (not far off). Hopefully, then, Keel will join the party as well. Happy days...

which upgrade yields more in terms of music between the one piece Stiletto and the Tranquility? in other words is the right order of upgrade the Stiletto first and then the Tranquility?
