I found Bristol too hilly with very poor pavements and rickety pathways everywhere.  Will be tough on old legs and hips.

There are some good taxi's in Bristol, actually. I remember that my driver was very proud on Bristol and telling me all kind of facts. He talked more than my mum in law normally does. 'on your left side you see the largest parish church of the UK' - he said. Don't know if it is true.

The largest parish church is Holy Trinity in Hull. Clearly, you were very lost indeed.

The largest parish church is  CLAIMED TO BE Holy Trinity in Hull. Clearly, you were very lost indeed.

Do any young people go to these hi-fi shows or is it more for those of a certain age (and older)? I'm tempted to go having never been to a hi-fi show before depite being of a certain age myself.

Would be interested to hear the Kudos 707. I wonder if Sonus Faber will show off their new range of speakers? I imagine the 707 will be similarly proced to the new Guarneri Tradition for example.

How young is young?

Last years show was the first hifi show for me. It did make me smile when [@mention:50422349809511500] and I popped into the Harberth room and found a couple of older gentlemen asleep.

I hope they weren't still there from the previous year ??

we could all be terribly groupie and have a forum get together. At the bar at the hotel? Would someone from Naim come along with an expense account credit card? :-) :-) :-)

Now I understand the price increase of this year!

After visiting last year and observing the goings on, some essential items you must bring with you include, a large bag, that must be carried over you shoulder at all times. It is highly likely that it will hit people as you pass by, but don't worry about that. This should contain sandwiches for lunch, biscuits for morning tea and some small extremely crumbly cakes for afternoon tea, all of which should be wrapped in kitchen roll. A flask containing your hot drink of choice is also advised. But don't use the lid as a cup, bring your favourite mug from home, there's plenty of room in that bag! You may also wish to bring a towel to reserve your space on the window sill outside the restaurant for lunch. The sill is extremely popular with punters, so get your towel down as soon as you can. You may also like to make a sign to wear around your neck saying 'Wake me for Naim demo' when you feel a brief 'power nap' is required. There were many reports last year of show goers missing demos whilst enjoying 40 winks.

I have to admit that in getting on for 50 years of interest in hifi I've never been to a hifi show! In the early days when they might have been of most potential interest, anything any distance away would have been unreachable, and then when I may have been in a position to travel readily there seemed little point, given crowds, complaints of poor listening conditions, and overall not being driven by upgrade-itis. That's not to say that wouldn't be tempted to go to one now if it were just down the road, but it's not. What do those of you that go regularly get out of it? (Other than people with a professional reason for going.)

I think it's wearing that rucksack described by finkfan (probably not the name that's on his/her birth certificate) that is the main draw for many. Plus the possibility of hearing some prog rock in an unfamiliar setting must really motivate some.

What must keep many away is the real and big danger of hearing some new music. Perhaps a bit of Goon Sax, Wolf Girl or The Lovely Eggs. Must be a terrible worry.

Very true, finkfan does not appear on my birth certificate. I may add it as a middle name though.

I'd be more inclined to go if Tiger Paw were there demonstrating the Tranquility. In the years that I have been I've usually ended up buying something, even if it's only been a record or a bunch of CDs.

I've just noticed Revel will be there. It will be interesting to see some of their other speakers. Tellurium Q will be demoing their new black 2 and silver 2 speaker cables.

I hope there will be somewhere to have a lie down.

I did the Hilton Garden hotel Bristol if anyone is staying there...nice and central.

Probably a no-no, unless they've got walk-in baths, Graeme.

I see that Stannah will be there too.

Yes. They can be found at the bottom of the main staircase
