Finkfan,  thank goodness for that I thought you were going to say that you had a sneak preview of the new Focal headphones.

I wouldn't do that to you.

I'm going nowhere near the place, I've spent enough this year and it's not even march yet

I think he uses Tannoy Kensington Royals at home, but is itching to upgrade to the Buckingham Royals.

Wonder what the average age of the audience is in the foto? And I wonder if it was like this with Naim customers back in, say, the 1990s?

I suppose a lot of this kit is expensive and so a younger generation cannot afford it or are quite satisfied with mp3 based music.

It's quite sad. And where are the women?

Yes the diversity is lacking a bit.

Unfortunately, I noticed most of the wifes were at a book signing next door.....'.fifty shades darker'.... At least they all came out smiling...

Blimey! I'm a bit blinded by the light reflecting off all those bald heads! BTW I am about the average age of that audience and was part of the audience of a similar vintage in another session on the Saturday but have (just) managed to keep my hair - so far!

I would suggest the average age of a Naimee is highish due partly to the cost of ownership and youngsters being weened on iTunes, Spotify, iPhones and ear buds, and oblivious to better quality alternatives. Maybe the new Uniti range might start to change things. I was certainly impressed with the Nova at the Show even though there were signs that it struggled a little bit with driving the Sopra 2's (e.g. the bass cones were flapping all over the place). The Uniti range looks pretty cool too. I certainly hope the Uniti range will attract some young blood (well younger than us lot) to the brand, so that the brand stays strong long after we have completely lost our hearing. Additionally, today's Muso/Uniti buyers will hopefully be tomorrow's Classic buyers. Let's see.

,,,,,,,,,  yeh but remember Nigel,  they say grass doesn't grow on busy streets.    I have to say I disagree completely as would be expected for an almost fully follicled ol' wind breaker.

My wife and I went to the Signals summer bash a couple of years ago and she was quite surprised that she wasn't the only women in attendance.

She did remark it was like a grey hair and polo shirt convention though.

My wife would rather listen to music than read that crap.

Looks like they're sat at a funeral. All looks rather awkward, someone needs to crack a bad joke or something to break the ice

Probably just been told the revised release date of the new kit

It was dead quiet in the room till they started the demo. I'd have had the system ticking over if it was me

This is what pace, rhythm and timing fanboys look like. What you can't see is their feet going 19 to the dozen tapping away to the beat.

Why is there the group of people in the foreground in a box? What does that do to the sound?

Is 19 to the dozen accurate timing?

I suspect the lack of diversity is mostly a cost and image thing... I grew up on cheap cassette tape and badly tracking record players and poor CD players.. but I enjoy audio replay now, so I don't buy the MP3 and cheap headphone argument..  but when I was very much younger the entry bar quality audio replay was often too high for me, and arguably it's even higher now. For younger people now on average, especially in the U.K., I think you'll find there is just less disposable income than say twenty / thirty years ago.

I understand Naim are exploring other events / media outlets  to launch their all-in-one products now rather than the traditional 'hifi' show and 'hifi' press... but they of course need to look after their old faithful as they have usually the biggest wallets for the seperates and higher...

I too grew up with the same sub-standard type of audio gear (due to cash restraints) but at least we were aware that great audio gear existed, I just couldn't afford it. It seems today that young listeners are (in the main) more concerned with convenience than absolute SQ and many I would suggest are somewhat oblivious to the quality end on the audio reproduction spectrum.

Looking after the old faithfuls is fine but we are, sadly, a dying breed. The brand needs new, and younger buyers. Yes, there is always the challenge of the convenience of 'mobile' audio but you can now have decent in-home audio for the price of a Qb. A recognition of the rewards from having quality audio in your home feeds the hunger for more - enter the new Uniti range. And we all know what comes next.

Not all new entrants will aspire, or even want a Classic system. But some will. Naim just need to create awareness of the wonders of quality music reproduction in the home. I do realise this is easier said than done but Naim have been smart with the introduction of MuSo (and Qb) and the revamp of the Uniti range. Just what the brand needs IMHO to bring in the new blood.
