ndac update failure

Posted by: oferr on 05 February 2017

Hi everyone.

I tried to update my ndac with a sandisk memmory stick.

After rebooting, all the dac's lights are on.   I tried to force rebooting by pressing 1 and 3 as told and nothing,  then i was suggested to press 1 and 4. Nothing happend,  all lights freezed on.   Ani insights???

Thank you very much

You might want to switch the nDAC off, switch it back on again and check whether the firmware has really been updated to v.4.11.8 yet. If not, I would follow the instructions all over again and use another memory stick that you will have tested by playing a WAV file. :)

I happen to have conducted the update only recently as I wanted to take the time to compare pre and post v.4.11.8 against NDS v.4.3 and v.4.4. The update went very quickly - in less than two or three seconds. Lights went on again during automatic reboot as to confim that version 4.11.8 was installed, but lights 1 and 4 eventually stayed on. I used the Display button of the Narcom 4 in Pre mode to switch them off and checked again the version installed. v.4.11.8 was confirmed again. I then checked whether it could play a few Podger's L'Estro Armonico DSD64 tracks and it did it very very well. I was happy. I hope it eventually will go as well with your update.:]

They key to succes is making sure that the memory stick can be read by the nDAC (the WAV test described by CHAG).

A firmware update file should be at the root menu of the stick.

Whilst not in respect to a firmware update I've had problems using some Sandisc memory sticks to play music through the nDac. It occurred with more recent Sandisc Cruzer Edge sticks I bought, older ones not having the same problem. Tried to re-format etc. but with no joy. I simply discarded these sticks and used other makes, or the older ones. and don't have a problem. Maybe try with another make of USB stick?
