MRCU number 27 mains cords (for Naim)
Posted by: naka on 05 February 2017
After reading Malcolm Steward's positive review of this mains cable (referenced for Naim use) I remember to ask here if anybody have any experience with this cables and how it compares with the stock Naim cables?
Or the Belden 13964 mains cable?
Thanks in advance ![]()
Naka,
Not sure about the MCRUS No27, but I do have the MCRUS No85 (bought 2nd hand) which, similarly, was also designed and created for use with Naim kit, and it offered an improvement over the standard Naim power lead when used in conjunction with my little ‘Qute. I think they offer a money back guarantee as well. One caveat, this isn’t going to hold its value like a Naim Power Line though.

Apologies, understood re the link.
The MCRU 27 has a MK Toughplug, Martin Kaiser IEC connector & Belden 13964. I really don't see how it can be claimed its "developed to use with Naim equipment", do Naim have special IEC inlets ??
I use both the Toughplug & Kaiser IEC's on some of my units, but not with Belden 13964, I have used it in the past & have some left over on my BlueRay, its a PVC cable, not much else to say really
Hello Mike-B
So how do you comment the Belden's performance on Naim gear? And what manis cables are you using currently?
First thing I will say is I do not expect & have never found significant changes with power cables, yes small subtle differences, but nothing like the changes you find with speaker & IC cables. I bought this Belden simply because I needed a longer cable length & chose it because it was screened & hoped it would be more suitable for the area it was running through. I did not find any difference that I could detect between the Belden & the Naim stnd cable. I've since changed my layout & now have Supra LoRad 2.5mm from wall to an 8 way socket board & Mark Grant 2.5mm screened cables to the Naim units.
Price wise the Mark Grant cable is a good alternative to the MCRU 27 /Belden cable? But is the performance better?...
Well, I really need do upgrade my stock Naim cords (because the schuko plugs are angled and I need straight ones) but my main concern is not to ruin the Naim signature sound - I will use them on 122x/150x.
Why not just change the plugs?
I thought of that but I want the keep the original cords not to lose value if I upgrade the amps... because audiophiles tend to be picky about things like that! ![]()
Hi Naka,
a new Naim cord, which comes with straight Schuko, has a retail price of 15 €. Why not simply two of those?
Where can I buy them at that price?
I always see the stock Naim mains cables at 30-40 euros which I consider way too much for what they are. So I was looking for other best valued alternatives.
This is, at least to my knowledge, the regular price in Germany. Sorry for not including this info in my first post. Prices may be different elsewhere, of course.
If you are currently running the system with angled plugs, why do you need straight ones? And if for some reason you do, surely buying the standard straight Naim ones is the logical thing to do. You will seemingly spend the €30 to 40 on a cable not chosen by Naim to work with their equipment, yet you want to retain the Naim sound. There seems an obvious solution here.
