Core files on Macpro finder

Posted by: David O on 06 February 2017

Hopefully I have posted this in the correct area...I have just set up my Core (fitted with recommended Seagate hard drive). So far I have ripped directly to this, then I have imported music from my Mac Pro (wirelessly). In both instances the music files are showing on my IPad naim app, however, when I look at the Core on my network (via mac) the  unit is showing as expected as well as two files 'downloads' and 'music', however, I cannot save files to these and none of the imported files are showing either....am I missing something simple?

Hello everyone – having some of the issues. Speaking of a MacOS connection only as I have no Windows. Sometimes it's impossible to reach the core. A restart of the core (unplug an plug the cored) solved the issue but cannot be the solution.

Furthermore (would not like to hijack the thread but it fits too well):

Access to the downloads is annoying as I have very, very limited privileges (r/w). Would like to have full access to my files. Would like to copy (SYNC!) files from my Mac to the core all the time. Seems like the core is taking possession of my folders after a little while keeping me from (mostly) any kind of file manipulation. It's almost impossible to edit tags as I'm not even allowed to copy "folder.jpg" to the core.

Have used (and actually still use) several NAS devices like QNAP or Synology which grant me full access to my folders on the NAS.

Any advice appreciated

Just checked by reformatting mine... there is no formatting option for the HDD. So NTFS it is.

... and weirdly, the music is still playing and the app still showing my ripped discs.

We are now entering the twilight zone...

Jan, this looks similar to the setup with the HDX. My unit when first installed some years ago also said the drive would be formatted and all data lost, yet the music was still that after the process.

Lorenz - I seem to be having the same issue as you: problems accessing the Core from my Mac. The Core is displayed in the Finder as a 'shared' device but trying to access it fails. Re-booting the Core seems to cure the issue but after a while the problem recurs.

Also having another issue whereby the Core stops playing mid-track, and the app seems to lose connection with the Core. I really don't understand this: the Core's music is all located on the internal SSD drive so even if there is an intermittent network connection issue (which there shouldn't be, of course), it is hard to understand why the Core would stop playing (should only stop being reachable from the app).

Frustrated, as the Core replaced a HDX-SSD which I found to be difficult to get along with - was hoping for a more robust platform second time around...

Update re my original issue plus another question I raised re editited metadata on a PC..see response below

My colleague passed your email over to our second line so I apologise for the delay in replying, they are aware of the issue you having and the software team are working on a fix which should be available in an update either late February or early March.
Regarding editing the meta data this should also be possible in the next app update, the current advice is to avoid doing it with 3rd party editors just in case it doesn't work when the update releases.

We are looking into why some users are having issues with accessing the Cores Music and Downloads shared folders from their Macs (and very occasionally PCs) - it seems to be affecting a handful of users and the software guys are looking into it.

It is important that if you have ripped CDs into a network store then you don't go and edit metadata on the Core rips manually using third party tools - this is likely to break indexing. Metadata editing is promised for the end of March and then you should be able to do all your editing that you require, Music that is in the "Downloads" folder may be edited using whatever editing tools you wish.

Cheers
