Oddly enough, when I read the thread title I thought of Moondance - as a morning album! (side two especially).

Evening albums would include Joni Mitchell and a lot of jazz. Afternoon? Old prog and folk.

High summer late afternoon and evenings when the sun casts long shadows ,I'm always reaching for Fleet Foxes . Fleet Foxes.

I don't find time of day makes any difference, other than late at night the voliume has to be lower, so less likely to play heavy rock or dramatic classical.

I'm a creature of habit, so most mornings it's classical, starting with Radio 3, then ambient/chill/Berlin Electronica in the afternoon, then noisy rock or jazz in the ending, finishing up with something spacey or Berlin again.

Late afternoon in the winter I'll be likely to play Indian Classical.

Or, like this morning, I'll go crazy apeshit and play some Miles Davis.

I have developed a habit of last album before bed being Leonard Cohen or Bonnie Prince Billy. Any of their back catalogues seem to do but one or the other artist seems to hit the spot most nights.

Morning album-you must be joking. I'm at work!

Ah, the (few) joys of being old

Time for a challenge: for anyone admitting to habit, especially in older age, remember that variety is the spice of life, and a bit of stimulation is good for health: so how about, say, AC/DC fir breakfast?

In my workouts in the morning mostly rock or jazz. Afterwards during breakfast always classical solo piano. The rest of the day varying on my mood and desire at the point in time.

At the weekend:

Morning - maybe Brian Mathews on R2 or Ella Fitzgerald

Afternoon - concertos or Loudon Wainright

Early evening - indie music time

Last thing before bed - Submarine or the Jon Hopkins/King Creosote album

I don't have a typical playlist, but let's say that if it is not one of those days I feel an urge to run after the postman and bite his leg, while doing some morning housekeeping I play this (or one from their other 12 LPs):

which are trustfully injecting happiness in me since 50 years. Then, In the afternoon I usually play music on the Consolette, like Dinner Jazz Excursion, Calm Radio Jazz Guitar, BR-Klassiks, or even Quiet Village Radio if I am in some Hawaiian mood. Only occasionally, if the moment asks for it, I play a Bruckner Symphony (8th, preferably) or Strauß' Ein Heldenleben, singing loudly the 8 Horns part in the reprise until, at the peak of the high E-flat, I'm on the verge of ecstasy.

At night, I favour solo Piano with a high content of reflexive, intense mood:

or the only saxophone player that doesn't make me want to go back to 19th century and slaughter Adolphe Sax:
