282/HCDR/250DR to 252/SCDR/300 DR... what do you get for the extra money?

Just a curiosity, what does one get if upgrading from 282 level to 252 level of amplifier?
I heard 552/500 and know what that sounds like, but never really quite heard 252/SCDR/300DR
This has been debated endlessly - perhaps a few hours reading the results of a forum search is what's required.
I have read all the posts, but now asking about the DR amps. I don't think anyone has posted with SCDR, HCDR and 250 DR/300 DR As you know different amps.
We can always use new material to add on search![]()
The 282 compared to 252, is different not necessarily better, SC over HC is a big step up, 300dr over 250dr again a solid improvement, more of everything you like and abit more. But of course all this no doubt depends on your source, speakers, cables , ???
The combination you mention 252, SC, 300dr, I heard on dem at last year's Bristol hifi show, it was paired with Sopra2's, can't remember the source, but sounded absolutely superb, the depth, soundstage, warmth, separation, just incredible...
That said 282, HC, 250dr, with good source and speakers , would certainly be a happy to have combination...
Surely if you are asking this question it means that you could contemplate the upgrade. And if so, surely a dealer can show you exactly what you get for the money.
The forum is likely to show a consensus on which is better (70% concensus, 30% made up of dissenting views) but how much better is going to be massively subjective. Two people could hear the same improvement and hear it in the same way and one person thinks it is worth $500 and the second thinks the same difference is worth $1000.
Added to that, in this scenario, you are changing not one but 3 very big variables at the same time. You are going to get a lot of people explaining how they did not compair the two systems as-is but made the change gradually over a few years or have only heard the difference between a HCDR and SCDR and comment on that. There will be a lot of noise and you'll be none the wiser for it.
I don't think this is as complex as the debate might imply. Wenger's description of the 252/300 is spot on the 282 is less detailed and a more vibrant but it's all good. And as ever get an authorised dealer to demonstrate.
