HDX Issue
Posted by: roywferg on 12 February 2017
Hi, Have just reconnected my HDX after it being in the box for 7 months and it won't get past the 'starting' screen…
Anyone out there with any handy hints would be most appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Disconnect from the mains and leave overnight. Plug in, power up and try again tomorrow. If the problem persists you know what's going to be next. Unfortunately.
Hi RF, sorry to hear about your HDX. Is this a HDD version? Mine had once a similar issue, in the end it appeared that one of the hard drives crashed ...
Most likely stuck in a BIOS start-up..... I fear it's back to the mother-ship.
Probably the hard disk - in the end it will probably need to be replaced.
I had exactly the same issue a couple of years back, and it turned out to be a problem with the bios, due to an incorrect shutdown.
My local dealer was able to reinstall the bios, and at the same time replace the CMOS battery, which saved me having to return the unit to Salisbury.
So, visit your dealer first, and fingers crossed.
Hi all, thanks for the notes. Shall have a go during today and see where I get too! Was wondering if the fact that in moving house and changing the BT hub would have sent it into a nosedive…
Onwards and cheers to all

It shouldn't affect startup and if the HDX was shut down properly then it shouldn't be corrupt either. As it's been in a box for a few months, perhaps a flat RTC battery is the problem.
if you have a VGA display then you can connect it to the VGA connector on the back of the HDX and what the display says when it gets stuck will be an important diagnostic.
If it isn't convenient to get to a dealer soon then I would suggest you ring Naim technical support for advice.
best
David
Hi David,
Thank you for the note - have just gone through the procedure and mailed Phil at Naim. Now trying to locate a windows PC. Mac man!
Appreciated.

Hi there: I had the same problem a couple of years ago - turns out the main HDD had gone TU. Had to replace both drives. This was done under warranty but next time it will be on my dime (as we say in the States). If this should happen again, I'll go the SSD route and keep my files on a server.
Cheers for that... I am keeping my fingers crossed. Tech help booked for tomorrow am with Phil from Naim.
Remaining hopeful…
How did you get on solving this issue? Any joy?
Hi there… yes thanks. Phil from Naim logged in and got me up and running!
Happy days.
Top bloke is Phil.

Any idea what the issue was?
Hi again Paul,
The problem was with the power line within the building! Electricians were the next port of call... HDX was all good.
Cheers.

If yours is the one I'm thinking of then I believe that it was with the HDX's network connection to your router - as soon as we connected it directly to your router rather than through the link you had been using it on the end of then it sprang into life. So if yours is the one I'm thinking of then I actually didn't 'fix' anything on this one...
Cheers

Hi Phil,
You are obviously monitoring and yes the direct connection within the room worked for the HDX but to get it to work in the room I was hoping to required the electricians to get involved with my circuits but was very grateful for your help in helping me find out the unit was all as it should be - so thanks again.
