UnitQute 2/Superuniti digital in?

Posted by: ChrisG on 12 February 2017

Hi

Currently using a Quote 2 , am I right in assuming that when I use the coax digital in, the signal is not reclocked or "cleaned up" in any way, but with a Superuniti it is?

The SU uses a RAM buffer type arrangement which is a bit more sophisticated than the Qute 2 but whether this actually makes much difference...

What's your concern Chris ?

Thanks James.

I use a Sonos connect digital out into my Qute2 in my study a lot of the time as I like to have the same music playing all over the house (6 Sonos zones) as I move from room to room...... it's just the way I am! It occurred to me that a Rega Dac that I currently use from a Samsung TV optical out into Sonos, might also be used to improve the digital signal from the Connect into the Qute2 as it has a digital in/out that claims to clean up and re-clock the signal. Haven't tried it yet but will do soon although it's not too convenient as the Rega Dac is quite hefty and yet another box etc  and if the same improvement on the digital signal could be achieved from the Superuniti it may be a better/neater alternative...or maybe DACV1 and Nap 100. Speakers are Neat Iota on Iso acoustics desk stands and I have a feeling that bit more power may well suit them.

Ah understood - I'd not bother with the Rega DAC in this way Chris. Just connect the Connect optically to the Qute and you'll be sorted. There are modifications around for the Connect to improve it's digital output but i'd leave well alone and spend the money elsewhere. You've got a decent study system so no need to over complicate things for little (if any) real gain.

Thanks James, I'll try the Rega Dac as it requires little effort on my part, but your point is well taken.
