RIP Al Jarreau

I hope this is not becoming a year like last. Another great artist dying. I would have seen him in concert at a jazz open air around the corner in July.......sad

Can't believe it. Not so much these days, but I used to listen to Al Jarreau all the time and saw him live. Wonderful artist with a unique singing style. There is no one else like him. A very sad loss indeed.

Theme from Moonlighting is one of my favourite *guilty pleasure* record I own. It sounds terrific! on 45 12" single to boot!

Another is this happy tune called 'mornin' from self titled album 'Jarreau'. (1983) This won a Grammy that year.  A typical 80s synthetic sound but beautifully produced with all-star supporting musicians: (Jeff Pocaro, David Foster, Abe Laboriel et all )

I remember I was so hooked on the intro of this tune, 'Thinking about it, too' from All Fly Home (1978) ended up with multiple copies of vinyl including MOFI edition in search for the best sounding one. :/

Very sad. I met him very briefly at the 2015 Montreux Jazz Festival where he was judging a vocalist competition. I dragged my children up to meet him as well and he was absolutely lovely with them, showing an interest in their singing and encouraging them. A lovely gentle guy with a palpable love of music.
