Bubbleupnp server or Chromecast for QOBUZ

Posted by: docbot on 15 February 2017

I currently access QOBUZ on my Unitiqute by using Bubbleupnp sever on my qnap and Linn kazoo control app on my ipad.  This does work very well. However, I would prefer to use the QOBUZ app. I could do this by casting to a Chromecast audio connected optically to the qute. Is this a good way to go? I am happy with the sq through bubble and won't go with the Chromecast if it compromises sq.

Thanks for your thoughts

I have no experience of your chosen UPnP solution, but there is a noticeable drop in SQ between the Qobuz desktop app into a USB DAC vs Chromecast audio SPDIF into the same DAC in my experience.  The chromecast is not terrible, and certainly is convenient and great value for money, but in pure SQ terms, I would say it is a compromise.

I tried Qobuz via a Chromecast and it was dreadful, a tinny replica of albums played from the nas. But for £30 there's little to lose by trying it. Much will depend on how fussy you are.

You're so fussy.  Who cares what it sounds like?

HH, you forgot to mention it 'weedy' this time. I would say, an improvement over previous posts.

CCA is an excellent device, especially if you are on the level of an unitiqute. I would not hesitate a second and buy it. Biggest downside seems to be that it is unable to play gapless. Don't worry on SQ.
