ampliflier upgrade?
Posted by: Bingo HC on 16 February 2017
Hi friends, my system is nd5xs+cd5xs --> ndac+xps --> 202 + hicap + 200 --> proac 1sc , now I want to upgrade and have two options,
1/ upgrade to 282 + 250 2/ 202 + 200 x 2 (bi-amp)
any suggestion which is better? many thanks
282 and 250. No doubt.
282 250 gets my vote too. 282 is my next box upgrade
[@mention:51970829741422995] - I run 82-250. Doubt you will be disappointing by the 282..... ![]()
Bingo - 282/250(DR). No contest.

Lindsay
282 is the most logical choice here, as you already own a HiCap.
As to NAP 200 vs NAP250DR - I'd actually upgrade in steps here. Pre-amp first (282) and then see how you like it with NAP 200.
NAP 250 is deemed as the most natural partner for NAC 282. However.... I've heard some amazing-sounding systems running a 'bare' NAC 282 into NAP 200.
As always - let your ears be the final judge.

many thanks to all friends, I think already have a direction , no doubt for 282+250
bingo
You won't regret - I promise ![]()

I'm hoping for a significant step up from the SN currently used as a Pre amp
Another vote for 282; the 200 is a very competent amp which should stick with for now. Then supercap the 282 for a real step up.
how about 282 + bi-amp 200x2 ?

What are you trying to achieve with the bi-amping?
Go the better pre-amp. Forget the passive bi-amping. A single NAP250 beats a pair of passive bi-amp 200s. However, active is a different thing altogether, and here active bi-amping has real advantages. Unfortunately I don't think your Pro-Acs can be run active.
Just make sure you don't try to bi-wire and also that you have removed the thin metal rods that Pro-Ac used to join the Michell connectors together. Instead use flying leads or an F-type connection.
Richard,
Can you go active with NAP 200s?

Sure, why not? Naim even sell special "active leads" (essentially DIN-DIN versions of the DIN-XLR leads) for the unregulated amps, as SNAICs are a bit too capacitive when doubled up.
now I know I have a stupid thinking before. 282 +250 for sure , simple and best.

Thanks.
Hi Bingo Hc,
I opened a thread titled 'Is it time for a 282'.Do a search and have a read.I have a similar system to yours apart from a ndx and no CD player.
The response was basically to go with the 282.I should of revisited the thread and posted that I have actually ordered a 282 to replace my 202 but haven't got round to it yet.
I didn't need a long demo to see what the 282 does in my set up.So,definitely a thumps up from me for the 282.

Is the biamping proposal with an active crossover, or "passive biamping"? Active certainly has potential to greatly improve speaker control, I'm less clear about passive. As for which is best, actve 200s vs passive 250, it may need someone who has done that to give definitive assessment.
Sorry wrote before but got called away and failed to post until I got back, now I see it is overtaken by some others'contributions...

The OP's speakers are not designed to be 'activated' so that rules out that avenue...
Thx Scooot and everybody
