Unitiserve logo flashing

Posted by: Dimitris Nanos on 17 February 2017

Hello,

new in the forum, may be this has been discussed before.

I bought  a used Unitiserve SSD which I received 3 days ago.

I connected it to my home network and to my Naim Dac, but the Naim Logo when I switch it on is flashing constantly and doesn't stop flashing.

I have switch it off and on again, but the problem remains

Can anyone give me some advice what to do?

The flashing logo means that it's not completing its boot-up process -- for any of a variety of reasons.

Just in case it might help -- see if it will boot up when it's not connected to the network or anything else.  Try to restart it with it connected to nothing but the electric outlet.

Could there be a CD stuck in it? Shove a paper clip in the hole as per the instructions, just in case.

Can the N-Serve app (or anything else) see the Unitiserve on your network?

Oh dear. This sounds like a classic fault with USs. I had this very same problem (continuous blinking of the logo and failing to boot up) and it had to go back to Naim HQ for some TLC.

Where did you buy it from? If from a dealer, you should take it straight back. Otherwise you should talk to the seller as I doubt the fault developed in transit to you!

I restarted it like Bart said but I have the same problem. No CD inside as I put a clip in the hole.

N -serve (from iMac and iPhone) cannot see the Unitiserve. But I can see it in the Finder from i Mac.

Dimitris - if you can return the US to the seller. It's faulty - either a fauly logo or it's stuck in a BIOS start-up mode.

Regardless - there is nothing , as a user, you can do. It's beyond your ability to repair - only a dealer or a NAIM service department can fix it.

I had precisely the same symptom a few months ago. My dealer returned it to Naim, fully expecting a crashed hard drive diagnosis. It came back 3 weeks later with a new BIOS battery!! Nothing else wrong, hasn't missed a beat since.

What can you see in the Mac Finder? My HDD version shows the folders on the internal drive, but the SSD doesn't have those. Still, at least something is alive in there!

Before you give up completely on my stuck CD idea, have a good poke around with that paper clip - a gentle push probably won't do it, and sometimes, it takes a restart afterwards to eject a CD. I'm not hugely optimistic on this one, but worth a try before you take more drastic action.

Dimitris, this is looking increasingly like you have been sold a faulty unit that the seller may well be aware of, particularly if you bought this US privately rather than from a dealer. I would urge you to tell the seller that you are returning it to them and expect a refund. Much of course depends on who you bought it from, how you paid and what legal protection you have in your country (your profile does not mention where you live).

This is almost certainly a fault and that almost certainly would not have developed during transit to you.

I hope I am wrong but you need to try to protect yourself if I am not.

Hi,

A flashing logo simply means - as has been stated above - that the unit has not completed starting up. It is not in itself indicative of a specific fault. To find out the reason why it is not starting up correctly then it is necessary to plug a VGA monitor (or s-video / composite video display) into the back of the unit to find out why.

There are a number of possible reasons why a UnitiServe might be sat with a flashing logo and so without the information as to what is being displayed by the unit on the VGA / s-video or composite video outputs then any suggestions are purely speculative.

If you contact us directly ( at support@naimaudio.com ) then we can walk you through diagnosing why your unit isn't starting up correctly.
