Stacking order

Posted by: Scooot on 24 February 2017

Hi,

After ordering my 282 to replace the 202 I am wondering if my stacking order at present will still be suitable when the 282 arrives.

ndx

202

200

xps dr

hicap dr over to the right hand side.

napsc a little bit away.

should I just swap out the 202 for the 282 or is there a better setup.?

cheers.

What you really need is an empty shelf below the 202. You can always try swapping the NDX and preamp and see if you hear a difference.

I first set up my NDX on the top shelf with 282 next. Swapping them round and putting the 282 on top seemed to improve things, even though it might seem a bit illogical.

??  Illogical ??  whats illogical.   282 on top makes sense to me - its as far from a transformer as possible - nearest is the 200 & NDX is not so affected (I believe).  Plus 282 has all the controls & if anything needs to be touched being on the top shelf is more convenient.  NDX does not really need much touchy stuff as its all controlled by iPad/Android.

What I mean is that it feels intuitive to stack boxes in the same order that the signal travels, source to preamp to power amp. Turntables, and other top-loading sources, obviously make this unavoidable, and a phono stage might still lay claim to the top shelf over a preamp. In that respect, source on top is, to my mind, more logical. Until, of course, sound quality dictates otherwise.

In terms of touchy stuff, largely irrelevant as far as I'm concerned, as the app controls everything.

I understand what you mean Chris,  circuit flow order etc.   problem is 'lecky has no sense of direction or Newton's law.

I'm sort of the same with controls,  I mostly control the amp with the NARCOM,  then when NDX is playing its the iPad,  Went its nite nite time I park the amp on Tuner (NAT-05) Button & mute so when I fire up in the morning, Mk-I pointy finger app is used.  Talking of which,  when we go up the wooden hill it will be all set for Brain Mathews last SoS prog tomorrow morning.
