Setting up Unti-serve SSD to Synology Nas Drive to Rip Cds

Posted by: crn6 on 27 February 2017

I have the above equipment and cannot get the Uniti-Serve SSD to Rip to the shared folders that I have setup up in the Synology Ds 412+ Nas Drive. I made 3 folders calling them NAIM_RIP, NAIM _DOWNLOAD & NAIM_BACKUP. I have made them share folders in the Synology Nas Drive and can see the folders on my computer down the left-hand column of File Explorer. I have then mapped the drives drives and can see them on the desktop-Client software where I have made the NAIM_ZIP folder into a Music Store, but when I watch the Zipping monitor page it always spits the cd I want to rip out of the Uniti-Serve saying.

" No music store could be located to hold this ripped disc. More disk space may become available after encoding of recently ripped albums has completed".

I have clicked on "Settings and then System Functions " and then chosen to Purge Images to clear Image Cache as I see on this forum it is suggested to do this if the Cd gets spit out to make room for the newly ripped Cd, but nothing rips.

If I go into File Explorer and right click the NAIM_Zip folder it shows that there is over 8Tb of storage left on the Nas Drive so this is not the problem either.

Can anyone tell me what I might be doing wrong? Thanks Chris

Hi Chris,

Just a thought, in the desk top client what do you see on the list. The first listed is the default for ripping.

Gerry when I open the Desktop Client the first page I see is Music Library Tab lit up with Artist, Album etc.

Further down this list I see My Hard Disc Player then Internet Radio, then DiskStation\music, then DiskStation\NAIM_Download etc.

If I click on tools the first in the list is Ripping and then Maintenance etc

from Explorer can you see sub-folders in this NAIM_Zip folder?

Has your Guest user Read and Write access to this folder?

What version of DSM are you using?

Make sure you read the related NAIM guide on how to set your UnitiServe with a NAS:

HI Gerry your right when I open musical repositories at the bottom of the list is stores for ripped music. When I click on this I get a tab which says Now Playing and under this heading it says Music Stores, if I click on the plus sign I can see the DiskStation  NAIM_RIP folder, this also shows up in the other box to the right of the Now Playing tab with storage, path & status headings. Under the Now playing tab it also has backup devices if I click on this a box opens that tells me that I have DiskStation NAIM_BACKUP. Does all this sound right to you?

Manu I have just looked in the File Explorer page and if I click on NAIM_ZIP folder I see 4 other files called HQ, LQ, MQ & Control. If I right Click the NAIM_ZIP folder then properties pops up with tabs along the top one of these is called security and if I then click on this security tab I see that Guest which is at the bottom of the list has a red cross through it which must mean that it does not have full share facility I presume and yet in my synology Nas drive all the boxes under Guest are ticked for full guest access. In the Explorer NAIM_ZIP folder under security the Guest has all its boxes ticked except (Full Control & Special Permission) Do you know why this is?

Thanks Adam I have run through the web-page setup files and everything I have done follows what these pages say so this was confirmation that I had done this setup part right! Thanks Chris

I also have a cross on guest access on my Unitiserve. If you access the shared folder of the Synology, then highlight the music store and click >edit >permissions, under 'guest' you probably have no read/write under group permission. Not sure but I am guessing this has an influence on accessing via Unitiserve.

I have got round this by accessing via another user.  To do this you can change it by  openeing the music store in Desk Top client, highlight the store then click 'set password', this should give you the opportunity to change the user and set the appropriate password.

It may be easier to set up a new store, particularly as for some reason I have included 'Music' in the folder name, which I seem to recollect was also necessary.

This is what I have done and it works fine.

Thanks Gerry I have carried out what you have said and set a password that is appropriate with my Nas drive I will go see if any of these changes have made a difference to being able to rip Cd's. Many Thanks Chris

Hi,

There's no reason to put "Music" in the name of anything - however by default any shared folders with names containing "Music" will be automatically set as active shares for indexing.

If the OP's Naim_Rips folder has the folders MQ / LQ / HQ in it then it was set up correctly as a store at one point however it may be that if the NAS was unavailable when the HDX wanted to access the store then it may have been demoted back to a share.

Can the OP confirm that it is still listed in the list of music stores and still shows as "Online"?

Hi Phil, thanks for your input I have accessed the Desktop Client and it is showing all my Diskstation files as offline. The NAIM_RIP folder is showing in the Music store but in the right-hand payne window it shows no albums and the  Used and Free details as unavailable. Should this be? If I access scanable network shares it shows all Diskstation folders as offline as mentioned above, would it be better to remove these folders both from the Desktop Client and synology drive shared folders list and start again by creating them again? I expect I would have to remove the same folders from the File Explorer's page also?. One thing I am unsure of is do I have to map the new folders such as NAIM_RIP using the explorer mapped drive facility or do I map them in the Desktop Client software. Which is best?  Also once the folders are created and they show in the Desktop Client I presume that I click on the NAIM_RIP folder showing in the Scanable Network Share list and chose use as stores and the NAIM_BACKUP folder as use as Backup is this right? Thanks Chris

If you drop me an email at support@naimaudio.com I'll arrange with you to take a look remotely and see if I can see what's going on with your specific system...

Cheers

Thanks for this message Phil. I feel that I have exhausted my ability to set the Uniti-Serve SSD to the Synology Nas Drive and some professional help is much appreciated thanks Chris. I will email you now as I am at home for the next 2 days, so help then would be great timing if you are able to fit me in!

Phil,

You deserve a medal for all you did to get my equipment working. There was no way I could have sorted out the problem on my own, so once again I am really indebted to you. You really know your stuff and you are truly a credit to Naim as I thought I was going to have to sell the ripping equipment and give up on this type of technology which would have been a shame.

God Bless You Chris

Hi Chris,

It was a real odd one though ... your NAS was reporting less than a gig of free space back to the UnitiServe and also its web interface wasn't available from your computer either but after nuking it and setting it up again it set up as easily as you'd expect so hopefully it hasn't put you off...
