Hi all, given that I have the original crossovers, what is involved In returning the S600 to passive?

Many thanks for your hep.

S, I believe it's a case of opening up the base, removing the active connection box and the  replacing the passive crossover.  Beyond that, I don't know the extent of the work or whether soldering is involved, i.e. whether it's a DIY job (if so, then possibly begins to step outside of forum AUP), or should be only done by your Naim dealer.  Possibly worth contacting Steve Hopkins at Naim for the details.

IMG_0697Firstly lay the speakers flat on the floor, you will see that there are four rather small black bolts that hold the active plate in place in each corner. Remove these and the plate will come away from the cast base.

You will see that there are the speaker cables in pairs coming out of the MDF base ( Mark sure you mark them up so you know what to solder where.)

now all you have to do is solder the crossovers in to the correct cables and refit the crossovers in the bases where the active plates where fitted. Hope that helps. IMG_0699

Just wanted to add that you should install the transit screws for the BMR when moving the speakers at all times as these are more delicate speakers than they look.

In addition to swaping out the base containing the pcb there are six wires to resolder which need a fairly hefty soldering iron.

I had mine converted from passive to active at home by Mark Ragget of Naim and my dealer. I noticed the cables only just reach the pcb so I asked Mark to ensure he left the maximum length in case I went passive again (unlikly).

Hi, I'm just enquiring on behalf of a friend. He's running all DR 500's.

He has an opportunity to purchase them but they are in active form at the moment. But have the cross overs.

while it is understood benifes will be had running them active, just not enough space for more black boxes.

Im sure a DR 500 should be sufficient?

Hi,

I'm running  passive 600s with non DR 500 and it's  quite up to the job. However, according to my dealer, active mode brings pretty much every  loudspeaker to another level in term of sound quality and reduction of distorsion due to the absence of passive crossover.

A 500 will be more than adequate.
