Neat motive 3 Speakers..
Posted by: ndx202- on 02 March 2017
Hello just got these amazing little speakers.Neat Motive 3 ' wondering which of the terminals on the speakers bass/treble are best to use...Using the bass ones at the moment seems to sound slightly fuller ..Best small speaker I have ever heard . They almost disapear when listening. Been positioning them with Joan Biez playing First speakers that I have had that DO THE RIGHT THING WITH CD /MP3 and vinyl. They seem to play anything really well ...Any comments welcomed on positioning etc...
Thanks
Glad you're enjoying the motives. I have motive 2 and haven't noticed much difference between speaker terminals. If you are using naca 5 make sure you get some jumper leads made out of the above. It does seem better than the brass connectors. I have mine toed in slightly and 30cm from back wall. Don't have any experience with rear ported stand mounts so I guess just experiment with positioning until it sounds right.
An F connection is what you need. There's an FAQ about it.

Yes thanks for the comments. I have found that 20 cm from a rear wall with slight toe in and about 2.2 meters between them seems sound optimal.
I have tuned them using some Joan Baez ' she tests most speakers I have used..They pass with flying colors as they say.
Not a single Iota of a breakup or holes in the sound stage ' they seem to like being placed well apart which was a surprise as I thought they would lose their way with over 6 feet between them. They are a great speaker that with a little tuning can produce magic..There is a sense of the artist venue and space weather studio ' live or a car' when watching netflix Ha Ha.
I listen to folk' jazz and quite a lot of indie tracks and can recommend these speakers. Room is 5 meters by 7 meters and they fill it very well..They are sat on the 5 meter wall.
When I first unpacked them I thought they would have no bass as they were so small ' but they are the best small speakers I have heard..I have a pair of Dynaudio 52' s that i thought would be hard to beat ' but the Neats are just fun and musical compared with The Dyno's that sound a bit dry in comparison.
Think these are a keeper for a while
Seconded they are great little speakers
They perform the complete dissapearing act with a good source
Just in some rooms the bas can be challenging

A Camellion ' they address all music styles with a great sense of the venue and the best timing that I have ever heard from my setup..Every style of music is catered for nigh on perfectly to my ears..
They even play digital media organically...First time I have heard and felt what Naim can do through speakers that communicate rather than just shout.. ...May even provoke the dreaded upgrade path....

How does the sound improve with the naca jumpers.??. I have naca5 . is it just an all over better synergy compared to the brass connectors ?
In my experience, pretty much any decent bit of wire (in the past I have used the basic hook up wire Naim used inside their speakers) in place of metal links on bi-wire speakers is a substantial upgrade. F connection makes it neat and prevents deterioration from oxidation of bare copper ends.
I remember having a big pair of B&Ws in briefly that I'd been asked to move on. I hooked them up to the main system and was somewhat underwhelmed by their performance. And so I took a good look at how I might improve matters and one of the first things I did was to remove the links and replace with wires - so much better, it was really quite remarkable.

Quite - I'm always dismayed to see a decent speaker spoiled by bi-wire terminals especially with those awful pressed brass plates. For such innocuous bits of metal they do have a surprising influence on the final result and usually not in a good way.

The old speakers are in my profile' old BW DM1800 , were ok but not exactly fast and foottapping like these motive 3's .. They seem to show the amplifiers strengths in the way that Naim describe their EQ... I will probably try some of the f links at some point , But am really enjoying having a pair of speakers that throw sound around even at relatively low volumes Richard. I have just got some new springs and rubber gomets for a Systemdek ix900 from Audionote and am enoying a deck I have not heard for 20 plus years. It to is a good mach with the speakers etc ' so all is good .Thanks for the comments...
I moved to petite sx and do miss my motives at times.
I quite fancy having another pair, they are great entertainment and shine at low volumes as well. Petite are noticeably better but find need a bit more welly to appreciate, the motive always make you take notice.
enjoy!

I now feel slightly guilty, Ben, in expressing my one-time enthusiasm for the Petite SXs. I liked them because I found them tameable in this small room, with their clever bung adjustments. The Motive 2s I tried (and I know the OP is talking of Motive 3s) just seemed to have too much woolly bass. You are in a far larger room, hence different experiences, I think...

Hi Chris
No need, I am happy and enjoy the petites. Just the motive are easier to like. I get a different satisfaction from petite.
Not sure speaker search is over but given these hectic days, I am content enough.
Cheers

Yes with a little experimentation and f jumpers in place now the sound is less wooly a little tighter and very good...
Good stuff. Neats are decent.

I also love my Neat Motive SX2
great combination with Naim!
