Kudos C2 vs Neat Elite SX
Posted by: Clive Gidney on 03 March 2017
I'm currently using a 62/HiCap/140 combination with Linn Keilidhs and have the opportunity to change the speakers to either of the above.
What are anybody's thoughts on these two speakers?
Heard them both several times but only under show conditions. Both excellent at their price point it would really come down to personal preference and most what works best in your room. Home demo essential.
Regards,
Lindsay
Out of interest, why are those the only two speakers under consideration, especially as they are very similar? Have you thought about a pair of SBLs? I'd also think about swapping the 140 for a nice serviced 250. It will really kick whichever speakers you choose into life.
Extremely nice speakers but you might not have the power for them
Mind you your Keilidhs are much easier driven and goes closer to wall
Of the two I guess the Elite will be preferable
Going up in speakers its important to have a first class source

Unfortunately they are being sold by different people at opposite ends of the country ![]()

I loved SBLs when they came out, but they'll be about the same vintage as my Keilidhs & must be getting near to EOL, especially for spares if needed.
A 250 is on the wish list ![]()
I had C2s and have now moved up to C20s which gives much more of the same great sound
Kudos have great synergy with Naim kit as I believe they use Naim in their design/configuration
Due to their port design they are also easy to position nearer walls if space is at a premium
I just moved from Kans to C20s a few months ago. The C20s are the 1st full range speakers I have had, they are a revelation. I do feel the 140 will struggle (I have 2 x 135), but if you are heading towards a 250, I think you will enjoy them a lot !
I heard C2s when they were used in a demo (Audio T Reading) of Hicap vs HicapDR vs Supercap DR between a 282 and a 250-2, source was CDX2 with and without a 555ps. the bass was rather muddy until the supercap was in place, remarkable how it cleaned it up. There was probably a fair bit of room influence in the mud but it can't have been all room or the supercap wouldn't have had the effect it had.
You'll be taking a chance without a home audition so make sure the price reflects that so you can sell them on if necessary.
Never heard the neats.
Having auditioned both brands in my lounge but not those models, if no dem was possible I'd say given the Kudos reputation for easier integration I'd say they are the least risky But everything else being = both promise great music.
Elite SX Great Speakers! I move from Linn Kan Mk2.

Thanks everyone for your input.
I had the opertunity to hear the Kudos C2s in the vendors system - CDX2/72/Hi cap - with my 140 (he had an olive 250) & initially I was seriously underwhelmed. However as the dem progressed things got better & better which we put down to my amp having gone cold overnight since I had taken it out of my system. In fact it sounded so good, the vendor said it confirmed his suspicion that his 250 needed servicing. He thought my 140 sounded better than his 250 & swapping over confirmed that while my 140 hadn't got quite the bottom end extension of his 250, my 140 has far more sparkle & pace & was more engaging. It 8 years since my 140 was serviced but his 250 had never been serviced so it just goes to show.
Anyway I'm now sat listening to a pair of cherry finish Kudos C2s & they are a significant improvement on my Keilidhs
I have also bought a 2012 vintage 200 off eBay & while it is an improvement over my 140 (which is probably due another service) I'm not blown away so it may go back on ebay
If you want to keep the 72, it's a nice serviced Olive 250 that you want.
