Nap250

Have an opportunity to get a good deal on a used Nap250-2.What year did the -2 upgrade become available and was it something that you could get done to an existing 250.Thanks Tony from The Great White North

2002 I believe with dr as an available upgrade

The NAP250 was completely re-engineered with the arrival of the new Reference/Classic range in 2002.  The older NAP250 (Olive, Chrome Bumper, or Bolt Down) could not be updated to the new model.  All that could be done was a fascia upgrade, although this was expensive, so quite rare.  However the new NAP250 (called the NAP250.2 on here) can be upgraded by the factory to the latest DR spec.

Richard,

If Tony has the Serial No. would Naim be able to let him no the year it was built?

Posted on: 05 March 2017 by hungryhalibut

He could look it up for himself on the website.

As HH says, if you have the serial number then the website gives the year of build.  However, if you want more information, i.e. the exact date it left the factory, whether any service history etc..  then a call to Naim is required.

Tony, I followed your logic: good deal and opportunity to DR later. Must be a Northern thing. Things haven't gone South since.

I live just outside of Toronto Canada and have a 202/200,DR HiCap and an Napsc combo right now.I understand that the best upgrade would be a 282 but have been told that a 250 for the right price would be very good also.Just wanted to know if I could expect any significant difference with a 250 over the 200.Thanks

Tony, I'm not sure I could live long term with the NAC202 fronting a NAP250.  By comparison, I'd much rather have a NAC282 fronting a NAP200.  With a 202 and 250 I'd be looking to upgrade the pre-amp sooner rather than later.

Tony, took a look at your profile, I see you prefer not to list your System, that's fine.

Taking a long shot, I would imagine you're sporting Naim's 2nd Teir CDP.

CD555/552/500--+Speaker Balanced System

 CD555/SN 2/--+ Speakers Balanced System

Expensive front end, but won't hurt!

A 252 might be challenged to control a 500 or an Statement, but I would imagine, it would feel right at home with an 300/250, or your 200.

Ok, You an everyone else see , where I'm headed, as Mr. Richard Dane has pointed out, assuming you have a Cdx2, the 282 is the point, where Naim starts to get interesting!

Not that a SN 2, or Naims 4th teir Separate Pre Amp is Bad, it's just not an Statement, or 552, or 252, or Naims Golden Extreme, The 282!

That being said, if the price for that 250.2 is one that's hard to pass on, go for it.

But be careful to factor in age/SN!

And next year, look at your System Profile:

Cdx2--+282--+250.2--+Speakers

Mind you, I have know hands on experience, however, I do agree with Richard.

As they say in Naimland, if it ain't a 282, it just won't Do!

Cdx2/282/HCDR/3 x 250.2/Fraimlite/Briks

Active Fan.

Sorry:Am New to those Naim forum thing and have just not gotten around to listing my system, it thanks for the heads up.

Oh no, a lot of Members decide not to list their System, I wasn't suggesting that you fall in line, but. I'm suggesting you check out how Naim debut it's top Teir CDP back in 2007!

I'm new also, no hands on experience, just joined the Foum a couple years ago, it's on my profile!

Forgot you're new, just click on the link, I posted, 20 minutes ago, it will take you to you tube video of the 2007 Naim CES.

It took me a year, to figure that one out!

Meanwhile, enjoy your Music, the Why!

Out!
