Chord Mojo - awesome
Posted by: analogmusic on 06 March 2017
Just wanted to share my experience with Chord Mojo.
There is a Billy Idol album I am listening to BFI Live - the CD is not available, only on Vinyl and on Tidal.
And for the first time ever in my life, I am quite annoyed that the CD will not be available, and I can only buy the Vinyl.
I am really enjoying this album on my Chord Mojo DAC in my car and office (Naim don't make any portable machines - will they someday?), - but the point is, Chord Mojo really makes music so enjoyable that I don't wish to buy the Vinyl anymore.
That makes Mojo, for me, the best hi-fi kit I ever bought
.
Naim and Linn, you were right all along, source first really works (in my car and in my office, I don't have my Naim amplifiers or my Dynaudio speakers, but it still rocks ... !)
Have you tried it with your Naim stuff?
I'm a frequent traveller (travelling tonight) and normally use my Dragonfly Black - which is good.
When I connect the DragonFly to my Supernait, it feels on par with the integrated Dac.
I'm looking for something which is a step up and can also be used during travel.
I do use Chord Mojo with 202/200 on a daily basis, it is outstanding.
So in the morning. Chord Mojo in the car, sometimes in my office, then back in the car, and then plugs into my 202/200 for Movies/Tv/Music.
Amazing performance from a small box.
They are a traveling unit, AQ black is good as well, if you are traveling with good cans mojo is worth to try
My Mojo is always on duty with my 'main' system (cd5si/nait 5si). Its connected to auralic aries mini. Well if Naim one day produces nd5si I might even buy it ![]()
My Mojo is indispensable. Works for great for travel and also as a DAC in my office system. (CPU/Mojo/MZ2-S/AKG 812 or Blumenstein Orcas). Excited to try the Poly.
My mojo has been promoted to my main system whilst my hugo is in for repair and it's holding its own very nicely. I prefer the sound signature of my hugo but the mojo is still extremely good and it's still making me want to listen to music.
It will easily drive most headphones too even though it's so small it really has plenty of power. What more can you ask for for such a small outlay.
I plan to get one for headphone listening in in my main system with the bonus of it having portable capabilities - need to work through how I would hook it to my car stereo.
The Poly also looks like a neat product to partner it.
Does anyone use their mojo for headphones be interested in sound quality. Plan t use Sennheiser hd700's

If you have aux in, can you get a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable?
Sounds great with my headphones but they are easy to drive. As DAC into a dedicated tube headphone amp, it's different for sure, but just like hamburger helper (according to Cousin Eddy) "it does just fine on it's own!".....
I bought one last week but getting mixed results.
I’m streaming from a SBT from the USB port. It sounds great into and old pair of Beyer headphones, but very disappointing into my Naim amps, although I’m pretty certain it’s down the to the interconnect I’m using. I made an interconnect from Mogami w2549, the sound is very thin with no real weight to the instruments.
Anybody got any recommendations for suitable cables.
Thanks WM, will give that a whirl when I order one.

I've bought an audioquest FLX-Mini/RCA Adaptor (3.5mm to 2 Female RCA) Adapter which allows you to use your own rca cables from your mojo 3.5mm. Mine Certainly doesn't sound thin if anything it's quite a rich sound.
I was listening to my mrspeakers ethe c headphones today on my mojo and it drove them perfectly.
Audioquest has a nice range of products. Be it the adapter or analog interconnects, you can get a wide range of terminations at price points. Ill put a little plug in for the Waterline Cables from Blumenstein Audio for this purpose (3.5mm to RCA cable) as well, local to my area and a good company.

I use it with my iPhone 6 through the apple CCK connector (using tidal offline)
Then with 3.5mm -- 3.5mm aux cable into my car stereo
I use mine with a fiio L19 cable to connect my mojo to my iPhone 6, much neater than apples cck & a USB cable.
I have never enjoyed my SBT as much as others on this forum. Maybe the problem is the SBT?
Try the toslink optical port as it will eliminate any distortion caused by the Sbt and I gather rob watts (the mojo designer) recommends the optical port to best sq
If the SBT is distorting, optical will only remove it if the fault is on the output circuits of the SPDIF.
Possibly more likely is superimposed RF noise affecting the Mojo, which optical connection will stop (though I say this not knowing what the SBT is like in this regard). Alternative might be to insert a USB Regen, though I don't have personal experience)
But as Brubaca suggested, the SBT could be the limiting factor, especially if downstream components from the Mojo are more revealing than the headphones.
MOJO presents music in a lovely manner, I use mine most days in the office.... Westone W60s.
Unsure about the Poly just yet, for 500 until I hear what the early adopters report
I might be encouraged to flip the MOJO for a HUGO as used prices are looking good since the HUGO2 was announced.
Mojo in to my car aux jack is really rather good too.
I won't bother flipping mojo for a Hugo....
thanks ... i did think that was a marginal gain
I meant for a real improvement you need a Hugo 2.
Hugo 1 and Mojo are different flavours of the same sound.
I'm not sure anyone has heard the Hugo2 yet, to offer an assessment on how different it is, or isn't? And if significantly better, the question will be how close it is to the TT, though I assume a TT2 might follow. As for Mojo vs Hugo, I think that for some people it is the different connectivity that decides between them, more than any sound difference.
Another happy Mojo user here. I find the optical input vastly superior to the USB input (I haven't tested the coax input, still waiting delivery of a special RCA-3.5mm coaxial cable).
The Mojo really does transform car audio and takes it to a whole different level. I am using the Mojo as a desktop solution as well, to my ears it is superior to the SN's internal DAC.
I am eyeing the Hugo 2, but still not sure whether the price difference justifies it over the Mojo. Will have to wait for some proper reviews and comparisons between the two (the Hugo 2 isn't out yet, it should be in April though).
I bought a used Mojo to test it with my NDX/Nait XS2/SL2 combination. My biggest problem was translating the connector specs into the German terminology and I incorrectly ordered a BNC to single RCA S/PDIF cable, so I had to go out and get an RCA to 3.5 jack adapter to go from the NDX digital output to Mojo coax input. I'm told it shouldn't affect sound quality using an extra adapter. Any opinions? The cables are made by Sommer Cable in Germany. For the Mojo output I got a 3.5 Jack to DIN cable. The result is engaging. I'm definitely hearing more detail and a brighter sound, but also more punch in the bass.
I think the mojo as a headphone amp is fantastic!!
However, I have connect it to my Nait 5i and don't really like how it sounds oddly enough... i much more prefer my cd5i.
