System damage?

Posted by: Kjetil E on 16 March 2017

Just got my SN2 powered up. I connected the wrong input from nDAC and started to play. Didn't hear anything so I changed between inputs and hit the AV. Music came out on full volume for a 2-3 seconds.

Changed inputs and started over. Could there be any damage except my ears?

Whoops !!    .and who hasn't done the same or similar in their journey through the audio upgrade jungle ?

I blew just about everything clean out of the cabinets on an early pair of Linn Kabers a few years ago, but my B&W 802's withstood the onslaught of a NAP300 when I installed the Naim app on both my own and SWMBO's iPad... it's a long story       SWMBO doesn't have the Naim app on her iPad any more

Windows are intact I presume?

Seems like my spendors made it through this time , phuuu!!

I'm now running both SN 1 and 2 in comparison. I must say I hope SN2 settles in during the next 24-48 hours. It seems a little muddy now compared to the old one. SN1 has been powered on for the past month so maybe it isn't fair play now.

It will take up to 8 weeks for a new / unused piece of Naim kit to 'settle down' into a new system.

Wait untill you add a HiCap DR

PS. You can disable AV bypass on the back of the SN2 - there is a sliding switch.

Bought it second hand so I think it has sufficient ours on the clock. I can start a new thread about the differences, but I'll give it a couple of days since it has been in transit for a week.

Thank you for the info about the switch. Changed the input to CD to be shure

Interesting,  & bit off thread (apologies) ,  When I had a weekend home demo with an SN2 (dealers demo unit) with a view to a change.  I ended up keeping my old Supernait,  I was not convinced about any SQ gain but I must make it clear it was very good,  a touch different maybe some better but I did not detect the same detail in SQ,  I expect that if I was coming from another amp I might have been very happy.  I suspect (maybe) I was subliminally reluctant to let go how I use the very useful to me 'Record' bank facility.

It literally took weeks for mine to settle down/me to get used to it but it was well worth the wait.  With the Hicap DR on its special and I have no desire at all to upgrade.  Enjoy the ride
