LS Cables between 552 pre /nap300dr and Verity Audio Parsifal Anniversary

Posted by: Lieven B. on 18 March 2017

I recently acquired an NDS/555/ 552/300 (all DR) naim set and verity audio speakers (Parsifal Anniversary).  My cables are currently not up to the standards of the electronics (standard burndy interconnects; Chord Odyssey 2 speaker cable). I was hoping to get (independent) advice from the forum members here...

thanks in advance.

Hi, What's wrong with the Chord wires that makes you consider changing them?

Filter out the ever present 'fan boys' and you may get some advice worth listening to. On the other hand, why not simply visit a good dealer and let your ears do the choosing?

I used Odyssey for a while but ultimately found it rather uninvolving. The sound was very neat and tidy but just somehow boring. The system you have just acquired looks fantastic and it's best to get used to it for a while. One of the nicest things about owning Naim was that you simply used the wires that came in the box and NacA5 cables, and the world of crazy cables passed one by. Now there's the hiline and with the introduction of the Statement there's the Super Lumina, which has opened up the world of cable angst that could previously be ignored.  I use Super Lumina with my system and love what it does, in that it's brought the music a lot closer and made the speakers disappear. They seem to work very well with the DR powersupplies as well. I didn't try any alternatives because I couldn't be bothered, so I'm not going to say they are the best. There are various cables from Chord, Tellurium Q and Vertere that I'm sure are worth comparing if you have the will. Those who own the various cables will explain why they chose them, but it won't really help a lot. I used TQ black for a while when I had non Naim speakers and thought they were great, and miles better than Odyssey. They were also better than A5 with PMC speakers, but with Naim speakers the A5 was preferable. And when I say better I just mean that I liked what they did more. And who knows how they'd work with the Veritys? One thing to note is that there are no alternatives to the standard burndies, which carry power. Well actually there are a couple but Naim will very sensibly not permit discussion of them and to my knowledge nobody here with a 552 etc is unhappy with the standard ones. So you are looking at the interconnect from the NDS, the din to XLRs between the 552 and 300, and the speaker wires.

Sorry, one other thing I meant to say was to check that you have a really good stand for the black boxes and that you have installed good quality dedicated mains. Both of these should, in my opinion, be done before thinking about swanky wires.

That's a nice system you have.

My advice is to upgrade the interconnect cables before changing from NACA5.

Some speaker cables perform differently, some better but rules of diminishing returns on gains/cost can apply.

The improved SQ is far more pronounced wth the interconnections, especially front end [on your NDS-552]

Would be best for you and your ears to go to a dealer [Perhaps Leicester?] for demos, such as Super Lumia vs Chord Sarum T, but be warned they can make a huge difference and you may end up wanting to spend money : )

Good luck with your choices
