DNLA UPnP protocol vs Spotify Connect

So after using Spotify Connect on my new NaimQB I've now come to the conclusion that the DNLA UPnP A/V protocol is rubbish. Things like not being able to fast forward/rewind mp3's is frankly a joke, DNLA seems like system designed in committee down to the lowest common denominators.

The Naim app does an OK job given the limitations of the technology, but using Spotify recently i've been amazed by how rock solid and responsive everything feels. Things like skipping around files, fastward and rewind and just the general UI feels so much more "instant" and responsive. The user interface is also beautiful. It's a pleasure to use. The difference between that and using various DNLA UPnP clients/servers over the years really is night and day.

Err, I can do fast navigation within a track on my N272, and could also do so on an ND5 XS and a Uniti, all of which were using properly setup DLNA network. Just personally I find the Spottify UI a bit of a dog's dinner, not a disaster, but could be better.

If you can't fast forward / rewind MP3's that's not much of a loss, use FLAC or WAVE and get better sound quality as well.
