552 inputs

Posted by: fathings cat on 19 March 2017

hi folks, is the a way to set the inputs on a 552 without a remote?

I have just collected my 552 from being serviced and can't get any sound from my LP12 and from memory I need to set the phone inputs....

i could wait until my dealer is about but of there is a fix I can do now that would be really helpful.

cheers

Gary

Yes, remapping the inputs can be done from the front buttons. The pre-amp manual describes how to do it.

Thanks Graham, I have the manual in front of me but can't work out how to get it in "program mode"  to set the rca phono socket as one of the inputs without the remote control?

any advise?

The manual says in section 4.2 that changing inputs can be gone, but yo enter program mode you need the remote. Sorry

Yes it's not obvious at all in the manual. And sorry I don't know how to do it

Cheers gents, I guess I'll just need to buy a narcom4 - bloody annoying as the only function I would ever use is setting inputs as everything else I do is done through naim app on iPad.......

grrr......

I thought the 552 was supplied with the necessary remote, which you need to get it into program mode. That's irrelevant if you don't have one of course. Maybe your dealer has an old one lying about that they'd let you have cheap.

Talk to your dealer to loan a remote. I only have two inputs, but volume and mute are very useful along with changing nDAC source. I change source when I want to listen to vinyl which doesn't change itself!

Looks like that's the answer, I'll have a chat with the gents at Basically Sound next week.

in the meantime the 552 is sounding very majestic following a service with my NDS so shouldn't really complain!

The NAC552 came either with the Flash or latterly with both an R-Com and a Narcom.

You will need either a Flash or Narcom for setup functions like input mapping etc..

Is it possible to update flash? I have several and each appears to have different firmware versions

Jon, so long as Naim still have the PIC chips then I imagine it can still be done, but best ask them. My own Flash has some very odd firmware as I was one of the development guinea pigs when the last big update was being done. All kinds of buttons that are wrong or do the opposite. I just never got around to changing out the prototype chip.

I shall check pic versions thanks

Which Naim remote will control my NDS and 552?

That would be the Naim app using system automation.

NDS's NARCOM with system automation enabled and units linked via a control cable.

Yes that's what I use (automation / iPad) works a treat ergo the only reason I need a remote is to set inputs..... thankfully my dealer is on hand to help with a quick loan!
