New Music server or Nas?

I have a five year old Zen Vortexbox connected to a SuperUniti, but I will get Uniti Nova when it is available. So I thought if I should replace my Vortexbox also? I really like the new Innuos, but I will not have the great need for cd ripping. Maybe a Qnap Hs-251-2G could be a solution? Or wait and see if Qnap/Innuos are releasing new products?
Naim's new Uniti units will support Roon, so instead of a NAS you could run Roon on a Mac (What I do), Windows or even Roon Optimized Core Kit (ROCK) which is a plug and play audio OS built on Linux for Intel NUC computers. Depending on the size of your collection a 2TB SSD might be enough storage, otherwise an external drive would work. Roon also has the advantage that as well as Roon endpoints like the new Naim Unitis, it cal also stream to any Sonos or Airplay devices you might have.

Why do you think you should replace the Vortexbox? Make clear to yourself what you do not like or you would like to improve. This will help you selecting a suitable alternative. If you do not need to rip, perhaps a Raspberry pi with an external HDD or SDD could be all what you need.
If it is working properly, just keep the Vortexbox. Is there something it's not doing, or is something lacking?
I would like to have Roon but maybe it's too expensive? Maybe I'll keep my Vortexbox and see what is happening.

I agree ... it it ain't broke, no need to fix it!

That would be my approach, too. Just as long as there's a robust backup in place, and it's always good to have some idea of what the potential replacement would be, and how to backup would be transferred to it in practice. The easy option, I guess, would be to back it up to a NAS, which could then, either temporarily or permanently, take over as a functioning music store/server. This way, you can be sure that your backup is fully functional before the dreaded day when you need it.

A backup is important, and this is precisely how I came to be a 'nas as your server' proponent. I was using a nas as a backup to my UnitiServe. Cool. Installed Minimserver on the nas just to try. Cool too. The rest, as they say, was history.
I would strongly suggest NOT using your NAS as your server, but YMMV.
Six months ago I sold my NS01 having bought a microRendu, and thinking the Naim would be an expensive upnp server. I used Minimserver, LMS and Synology's own server in a variety of configurations .....and over time became increasingly unsatisfied.
Last week I bought a Rsaspberry Pi 3, installed piCorePlayer with LMS & powered bu an IFI 5v PSU. Sanity has returned.
Now my Synology 1812+ is an older design, but I had bumped the RAM up to 3GB, and it has never looked strained. But, it was not making music.
