Core backup..powered external drives vs non powered external drives.

I had the privilege to meet with Dan Poulton (Asia Pacific Marketing Head for Naim) yesterday in Singapore. Saw and heard the Atom. It is gorgeous.

Anyway, I had a discussion with him on my Core. Some of you may recall that I raised an issue about my backup from my Core was not readable from a normal windows PC. So I brought my Core down to the dealer and we compared the operation of my Core with the one at the dealer. We did the following:

1. Used 2 drives - one externally powered 4TB external drive and one non powered 2TB external drive. Both drives are WD.

2. We first allowed each Core to format each drive and checked if each of the drives could be read by a notebook.

As it turns out, there was no issues with non powered 2TB external drive. Once formatted by the Core and plugged into the notebook, we could see the drive and view its content. Not sure for the powered drive. Going through the same process wias the non powered drive, it was noted that the notebook could detect the presence of the drive but it did not appear on windows explorer and hence we were unable to view its content. This occurred with the use of both Cores (mine as well as the dealer's).

Dan has said that he will have the technical folks back at Naim do some further test to try and replicate the issue and get back to me with some answers. Anyone else have similar experiences?
