Difference between Nait XS-2 and Nait XS2 ?

Posted by: Jazzcult on 22 March 2017

Hi at all,

I bought an Nait XS (60 watts/8 Ohm), Year 2012, series  322135 - 339631. It has already a HDD-Connection and the frontpanel is brushed like the XS2 frontpanel. Is this an advanced XS series before they launched the XS2 in 2013?

The label on the original package mentions "XS-2" but it´s not mentioned on the back side of the amp.

If yes, what else has been modified then?

Thanks at all for any comment.

Regards, Rob

Hi,

You'll soon know for sure because on the facia it will either sport a headphone output socket or a 3.5 input socket?

AFAIK the amp with headphone socket is XS2 as this would indicate a different circuit design altogether and is more powerful with 70 watts per channel into 8 Ohms.

I could be wrong but the only differences with the original XS and XS-2 was the front panel that changed from a powdered to a brushed coating.

cheers

Hi Steph,

the input socket is only the small one for stereo-cables (ipod , iphone etc.). Ok, so only the facia design has changed

and the added the HDD connection.

I´ll call the German DIS, Music Line, by tommorow. They will check with my serial nr.

i´ll keep you posted.

regards, rob

It is the original XS but just with the updated fascia. Nothing different apart from that as far as I am aware. I think Naim just put 'XS-2' on the packaging to denote which fascia was present inside.

The original xps-2 (60W) was wild and fun.

The 70W version a tamed beast suffering from middle child syndrome. Can't compete with the SN2, but can't be as fun and carefree as the 5si

Rob, If your new amplifier is as Stephen and others say (ie. the original XS) you have done well. Keep her sweet and she'll treat you right.

Hi Chris, I reckon.  this is my 1st Naim and I am more than satisfied! This piece is really really good and pulls out the max performance from my loved Epos ES 11 and old NAD CD512. The XS was only the first step. I will develop my system now, step by  Step .

Hi Rob, Step by step is the way in NaimWorld. Your XS has a beautiful balance of properties which make it hard to beat. Enjoy your music.

Best, Chris
