headline: left channel no signal

Posted by: Sofa on 24 March 2017

Hi,

Connected a headline to the aux/out of a 282 but only the right channel is working, no left channel signal. Checked the plug but that seems OK. Used the headphones on another device, is ok.  So, what's left to check? Thanks!

Was the headline working before or have you just bought it ?

If you've checked the 5pin DIN on the signal cable then open the headline and check the connections to the cable to the PCB are intact.

Before doing this can you check the headline on one of the tape outputs just to rule out the 282 being a problem.

Is it an original Headline or a Headline 2?  The originals had a floating volume pot - sounded best that way, but did mean the pins could get stressed and with anything more than careful handling of the volume control after many years one or more of the solder joints could eventually fail, with the result of either a loss of one or both channels.  The Headline 2 improved this area by hard mounting the pot to the chassis but using a better pot  to maintain performance.

Have you tried all the tape outs on the NAC282?  I second opening up the DIN plug connector just to ensure it's OK.

Thanks. It's the headline 2.  I'll check the other tape outs as well. I had a mini disc on the aux/in/out and it worked allright.

Checked the DIN plug but didn't open the headline. Might do that as well. Thanks for your advice so far. I'll let you know.

If it's still under warranty then best get your dealer to take care of it.

Thnx for your help sofar. Did some additional checks, other line outs didn't work either. Brought it back to the seller. It appeared to be the plug after all. A cable was broken. He fixed it and it works fine now.
