Does anyone use NAC 272 without XPS?

The good news is that you only need two. The 272 is not connected to the mains when powered by an XPS.

172 to 272 swapped today. Bare. Into 200DR driving Focal 906. First impressions really enjoyable. Better definition and clarity - more warmth as well. Sounds like Nick Mason in the room during Comfortably Numb. So my anticipation  of even better sound as it beds in makes for a very nice feeling. And RSD on Saturday too. Shall enjoy this place for a while and try not to get too curious about trying the XPS DR unless a good offer mugs me.

I made that 'mistake' last year - tested for three weeks. Initially thought - what's the big deal? I then had to give it back and put my NDX back in (I already had a 555PSDR). Ouch - felt as if someone took my music away. Lasted about a week and succumbed to the desire. 
Never looked back since then...

Mind you - you will need a capable pre-amp to do that NDS justice.

I would use the N272 as a preamp till it sold/traded towards a N252

You will also need a SuperCap for NAC 252. 

282/250 or 552/500. 252 only if you can audition it first - enough posts indicating people like the 282 better...

To reveal the full potential of the NDS, of course you want the best possible preamp, but not everyone would believe it to be wasted in a lesser system - for example:
