Hi
I am currently running NDX/Dac/Xps2 LP12(Ekos2/Cirkus)/52+SC/Snaxo+SC/2x250.
I'm aiming towards changing the amps to 4x135s, to which extent i've just purchased 2x135s.
I haven't heard a passive setup with 2x135s, at length, so am going to get my chance.
However, it'll be a little while before I add the other two 135s, so I was wondering: can I use the active setup with the 2 135s and either the two 250s in single channel or one of the 250s using both channels?
Or should I go passive with the 2 135s and wait till I get the other two 135s?
I really intended to sell the 250s to pay for the 135s I just acquired, but could change my mind at a push
I've also acquired a Prefix and the plan was if I went passive, then I could use the SC from the Snaxo to power it. If I stayed active, then I'll power it from the 52 until I can pickup a hicap or SC.

With a SNAXO you could put the 135s on the tweeters and have either the one 250 driving the bass, or one side of each 250 doing the same. I suspect you'll not notice much difference between one or two 250s on the bass drivers but I bet the 135s on the tweeters will be quite an improvement.

I'm with Tony on this one
go wonky active for a little while and flog one of the 250's I think coming down from active would be a disappointment regardless of amp, I resisted the urge while I was waiting for the snaxo to be re configured after I replaced the briks
you don't say what snaxo you're using I found the 362 to be a big leap in the right direction so imagine the 242 is too
theres never a shortage of buyers for the 250's and never a shortage of 135's (the best vfm amp out there along with the 52) the only real step up from these is to join the lofty heights of TonyM
im hoping to put another half dozen 135's onto the s/h market this year

Thanks Tony/Lyndon
I wasn't sure whether I could do the "wonky" way but am pleased that this is possible. So this gives me really good possibilities and a little more cost effective way of upgrading with sonic benefits in all the steps.
I'm using the 242 SNAXO.
Rather annoyingly, the sale of the 135s fell through, so a little more of a wait! But that's OK
I'm expecting delivery of the Prefix this week, so will be playing with that.
Lyndon, I agree with you about the active setup. I ran it with an 82/2 Hicaps and then replaced the HCs with a SC preparing for the 52 - sonic benefits in all the steps! Then I replaced the 82 with the 52 and got blown away! The whole stage opened up and everything got tighter. The bass is now awesome - nice and tight and much more of a presence! Everything is much more musical
I've been running a Dynavector DV20X on the LP12 and realised that for a long time I've been using the wrong cards (K). The Prefix is an S model, so I'm keen to see how records sound with the Prefix. I've read excellent reviews on it, so can't wait.
So I'll have a choice of changing the amps or upgrading the cartridge - lets' see
