Qobuz and Hi Res Streaming

Posted by: Goon525 on 07 April 2017

Qobuz have announced that from May, they will offer a Hi Res service with streaming at up to 96/24, to be known as Sublime +. Up until now, subscribers such as myself to 'ordinary' Sublime have only been able to stream Hi Res where they have already bought the Hi Res version of the album - frankly not much use.

This is exactly the sort of service I have been waiting for - initially 60,000 albums available. It'll be expensive, but may well be worth it. It makes me regret even more Naim's failure to integrate Qobuz into their streamers (I'm afraid Chrome isn't an answer).

A new argument for Linn DS, as they already integrated Qobuz! For me Qobuz is much better than tidal. My way to streaming Qobuz to my 272 by bubbleupnp is a workaround but not the way it should be. So please Naim intregrate Qobuz into naim-app for the 272, UnitiLite and all other streamers I will buy in the future. I think it is one of the most wanted features here.

Will ChromeCast Audio be still adequate to stream under Sublime+ even it is said to allow playing up to 24/96?

+1 for integrating qobuz. But I guess this will not happen for the "old" uniti 1 (with uniti 2 streaming board).

Did qobuz tell about the price of sublime+?  Does it cost more than sublime? Or will sublime be replaced by sublime+?

Uff, 350€. No, this is too much for me. I am happy with the 220€ normal sublime solution to pre-listen albums. If I like an album, I still buy it. If I stopped this habit and did streaming only, sublime+ might be interesting for me. Maybe in some years...

Gert, I agree this is rather pricey. I probably will give it a go, because 'better than CD streaming' is something I've been waiting for. And I no longer have a 'must own it' mindset. I'd rather stream at 96/24 than play a 44/16 CD.

sometimes I think Naim is not listenting to our cry for Qobuz integration , we have been calling for it for years , Please, Please, now is the time 96/24 streaming ....

It says 60,000 albums in 24bit. and up to 192khz!  A little too expensive at the moment I think and you have refrain yourself not to exceed your montly internet data allocation unless it's unlimited.

Too many albums on Qobuz are 24/44.1

For 350€ I can buy 20 albums from them.

I have been also asking for it for a long while. It would me going back to one streaming contract instead of two now. I have Tidal for Naim, and I have Qobuz because my album downloads benefit.

I vote for Qobuz....

I am just waiting for the 30% launch discount. ::d

For those of you playing via Chromecast Audio, I would be curious to know what Toslink cable you are using. :]

Naim won't integrate Qobuz. That's the whole point of the new platform being able to cast. Whether the sound quality is good enough remains to be seen.

Qobuz have the ECM catalogue for download, but it's not available for streaming as I understand it, which seems a shame. If it was available, €350 might be worth it. Presumably it will be £350.

I never understood the idea behind being able to stream only albums you have purchased, other than for mobile use (subject to connectivity)  - at home it would be so much more reliable streaming from your own store.

Audirvana integrates Qobuz, for anyone using that as the source, but I can't comment on its usability as I have never tried, having no interest whatsoever in online streaming services.

+1 for integration

I listen to Qobuz every day using various methods. Casting from the Qobuz app to ChromeCast Audio (via Mini TOSLINK to TOSLINK) is convenient for gapful content. I also use Airplay from the Qobuz Mac app or Audirvana. I've purchased some HiRes albums, particularly when the Sublime price is tempting. For example, Lully Armide Les Talens Lyriques is currently on offer in 24/96 for £10.49 (the CD price on Amazon UK will be £17.50). From my Qobuz Purchases folder, this streams with the Qobuz apps and Audirvana at 24/96 and can be cast to the CCA. Unfortunately it requires gapless playback which CCA does not support which gets annoying. For such albums I use a long TOSLINK from the iMac, or UPnP. These methods are OK but it would be great just to have one app. If that could stream HiRes I'd definitely consider Sublime+. Using the Qobuz app to cast to a new Uniti would be second best but only if the GoogleCast gapless issue is fixed.

I also have both. In my office I only use Tidal with Qb. At Home mostly Tidal through MAC A+. Qobuz to download.

I prefer the Tidal sound more than Qobuz, but I appreciate Qobuz classical libray.

Which one is your favorite SQ wise?

One of the reasons I sold my NS01 and bought the microRendu. LMS has a Qobuz plugin.

Eric,

I cannot answer your comparison question, but I suspect that 'it depends'. Last week ago a friend cam over and I played him a live version of 'Keith Don't Go' by Nils Lofgren, it sounded magnificent. I then played him 'Royal Blood', very poor. He speculated that it was down to how Qobuz stream the music, I suspect it may be the quality of the master they hold. How do we know?
