Hicap DR for a Prefix K

Posted by: Chrisn on 07 April 2017

I listen to mainly vinyl on a high spec LP12 and have continued with a prefix k. Through an olive system consisting of 52, Supercap x2, 242, 250 x2 (HF) and IBLs. All recently serviced. It is the best thing I have heard and has evolved over many years. I found a Hicap for the prefix was a very worthwhile upgrade. I think the comments that the powered input on the 52 is preferable for the prefix are not valid if the LP12 is high spec, that is my experience anyway.

I am now trying a Hicap DR, new out of the box, to power the prefix.  At first it was a bit splashy, but with plenty of extra detail, I wasn't sure. However after a few days the qualities of the old Hicap in terms of bass, soundstage and sweetness which I enjoyed so much previously have returned together with DR "detail" as well.

I am happy. But concerned I may need a Supercap DR on the 242.

Hi CHRISN

definitely a supercap on the snaxo, i'm about to experience a DR myself.

The hicap may need to run in, seems to be a theme with the DR stuff,

I used a hicap with my first prefix and was a sure improvement over the 52

is your prefix a first or second version ? I had quite a bit of RF trouble with the first

The prefix has RF mods done by class A. The Snaxo 242 is powered by an olive Supercap and gives a more detailed presentation than the olive Snaxo 42, the DR seems to add to this. I am still not sure if the DR is better than the olive Hicap which had a much more relaxed and rhythmic presentation.

How long to run in the DR?
